The Lone Sunflower

"Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow. It's what sunflowers do."
--Helen Keller

We have one, lone sunflower growing in our field. A volunteer. It stands tall and proud, like a sentinel. Maureen and I were admiring it's beauty last evening, how it is in the prime of it's life, "like a person in their twenties!" we remarked. "But it's all alone...."

I think seeing the lone sunflower also made us realize how lucky we are. We are not alone. It made me think of this quote:
"Fame is the scentless sunflower, with gaudy crown of gold; but friendship is the breathing rose, with sweets in every fold." --Oliver Wendell Holmes

Darling Kappy Reed planted that sunflower! :) We were wondering when it would show its smiling face!

What a beautiful sunflower and beautiful sentiments as well. That lone sunflower is definitely a soloist all alone in that field...and that's probably why it makes such a statement. Thank goodness for friends and family that provide such wonderful companionship even we we try to go it alone! Great photographs!

Dearest Delores,

Great theme with perfect images!
Sunflower or Tournesol in French; Girasole in Italian; Girasol in Spanish; Zonnebloem in Dutch; Sonnenblume in German but the French, Italian and Spanish language only mention the turning towards the sun... That's what they really do and we should learn from them!

Sunny greetings from Georgia/USA

So sweet that sunfower is, all alone but standing tall. A
lesson for us all.

Oh how pretty that is! I have been trying for a couple years to grow some, and I now have about 8 getting ready to bloom if nothing eats off the blooms. I adore sunflowers!

Oh so beautiful. How neat that it stands alone and came on it's own.

Thanks so much for coming and being a part of Summer Sundays!

How beautiful. I have a soft spot for volunteers! I love your tablescape too. I don't know how I missed that one. Your plates are such a treasure, aren't you glad you splurged and brought those back. The table cloth and great touches like the lavendar really speak France.

Me again! I spent some time looking at your side bar posts. I love your kitchen "redos". We have redone ours twice since moving in 19 years ago and I get questions as to whether the kitchen in my header is mine, so I think I will do a post like you did. I love your pool area too, what fun you must have there. You captured the blue hour beautifully.
