Last week, I made the trek across the Bay to Berkeley to spend the day lunching and antiquing with my friend Lisa. It's always a pleasure to visit Lisa! She knows all the fabulous little stores and shops, plus she has a great eye and exquisite taste.
Case in point: She pointed out this little cow painting, knowing how much I love cows.
It is hard to find good cow paintings that aren't too cartoonish or cutsey, so this one came home with me!
This milk bottle also came home with me. Lisa found it too, of course. I was only going to buy just the one bottle with the cow on it, until I realized there were more, and they were all in a carrier.
"Wouldn't it make a great centerpiece with flowers in each bottle?" asked Tom, the shop owner?
Well, that did it! I could just envision wildflowers or roses in each bottle...
As soon as I got home, I ran them through the dishwasher and they came out sparkling!
Aren't they beautiful?
These finds join the other bovines I've collected, like this cow over the stove.
And this painting in the dining room.
And this landscape in the family room.
Yet another bucolic landscape in the family room...
Sometimes I think my Mom might have been right when she asked me if I was "born in a barn" because that would explain my love for cows, as well as chickens. And sheep. And bees....
This list goes on and on!
Cows are very cute. You are right in that it is hard to find a "serious" cow painting. Our family farm raises White English Park which are extremely calm and gentle. Thanks for sharing the paintings! - Tonya
ReplyDeleteOh I so love all of your cow paintings, they are fabulous. I would definitely hae them all too if I could. Love the milk bottles, how fun is that. Great treasures. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteHey, I thought I had bought all the cow paintings in the world!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know there were any left!
Love that bovine bracket.....
Love your new finds, Delores. The bottles and holder would have definitely come home with me. Love that it is a round holder. Perfect for a centerpiece!
ReplyDeleteI guess I might have been born in a barn as well. LOL
I adore your style..........Sarah
I love that cow painting - it's perfect.
ReplyDeleteI grew up on a farm and love cows (and pigs and chickens and ducks)! I have a papier mache cow (not full size!) in my dining room, a papier mache chicken on my library mantel and a papier mache pig in my bedroom.
Your collection is fabulous! And, I love the bottles ... you're right, flowers will look perfect in there!
ReplyDeleteWhat a charming collection. I've never thought
much about cows, but after viewing your paintings it
brings to mind what gentle creatures they are. Thanks for sharing!
your collection of painting are just beautiful, and very elegant.
ReplyDeleteNaturally, we are interested in the frames as well as paintings. Delightful period frame on your latest find.
ReplyDeleteI adore these bucolic scenes, and your newest addition is perfect. I don't have any cows in my farmyard collection. Ha ha. But love yours.
ReplyDeleteThese cow paintings are all absolutely stunning..I love how they feel warm and country-ish but these are so much more sophisticated and GORGEOUS!

ReplyDeleteI love your cow paintings. I have recently bought one similar to your landscape in the living room. It is by a Dutch born Australian artist called Scheltema. I love the serene sense of peace and plenty that they bring.Love the cow bracket and bottles too.
ReplyDeleteVery nice collection of paintings and accessories! *nice* post!
ReplyDeleteI think we may be related…..lol! My love for cows and sheep goes so far back I can't even tell you! I truly think it's one of the main reasons I opened an Antique Shop! Loved this post!
