Festive Christmas Plates For The Table

I love Christmas plates and have several patterns to use for various years, keeping my family guessing, "which one this year?"
Most of us are familiar with this Christmas Tree pattern from Spode.  Introduced in 1938, it has become the world's most recognizable and best loved Christmas china.  Some of us even inherited these plates from our parents and grandparents.

Although I don't have the classic Spode plate above, I have this version called Christmas Tree Grove, also by Spode.  Same tree in the middle, but the rim is what I'm in love with.

Christmas Tree Garland by Spode.  Same tree, different rim.

Christmas Tree 70th anniversary plate by Spode.  What a beauty!

Let's take a look at some more holiday themed dinnerware.
I've gathered quite a few of my favorites to show you:

Christmas Story by Mikasa

Christmas in the Park by China

Christmas Toile by 222 Fifth

Holiday Celebrations by Christopher Radko for Target
I've set a few Christmas tables with this pattern!

Victorian Christmas by Johnson Brothers

Old Britain Castles by Johnson Brothers
One of my favorites!  I also have this pattern.

The Friendly Village, Christmas accent salad plates by Johnson Brothers

Cardinal Christmas by Royal Norfolk

Holly Ribbon by Royal Worcester

Grenediers  by Bernardaud

Holiday Garden by Martha Stewart

O'Tannenbaum by Oneida

Holiday by Lenox, another classic.

Season's Greetings by Lenox

Holiday Tartan by Lenox

Tartan Christmas by Signature

McLean Tartan by Ralph Lauren

Country Plaid by Fitz and Floyd

Tartan plaid plate by Pacific Rim.

Classic Tidings by Target
Of course, I had to have these!

I have found that besides Ebay, Replacements, Ltd. is the best source for vintage and out of production patterns.  Believe it or not, Amazon has quite a few patterns available too.

I actually like to mix and match my holiday china for a layered table.  Both of the patterns from Target mix very well, and we all know that Tartan goes with everything, including transferware!

Do you set the table with holiday themed dishes, and if so, what is your pattern?

  1. I don't have different dishware for Christmas. But really love the Spode plates - the classic/vintage look is what appeals to me.

  2. Delores, all of the patterns are beautiful! I just ordered the tartan plates from Williams-Sonoma last night! All of these are true classics!

  3. What fun to scroll through all these patterns! I have just four plates from the Johnson Brothers Old Britain Castles from a trip to Homegoods a few years ago. I have to see if I can find more online so I can set a full table. Right now I just hang the plates in my plate racks on the walls.

  4. Wow, these are really some interesting designs for the Christmas plates specially the top ones at the beginning. I will sure try these once I finish with changing blinds and shutters for the home before the Christmas eve.

  5. I, too, love the border on your Spode Christmas plates. Years ago my husband gave me Christmas dishes for Christmas. I had hinted that my choice was Holiday by Lenox, but when he saw them, he thought they were too fragile for children. When I opened my large gift, I found Spode Christmas Tree, which he said was sturdier and more fun for the kids. I was a bit disappointed, but that's history, and now I have a whole china cabinet of various Christmas Tree pieces that have been given to me over the years, which we use from the day after Thanksgiving to sometime in January -- whenever we get tired of them! :)

  6. After lusting for Christmas dishes for longer than I care to admit, I finally bought some this year, which I'm hoping to put to use this Christmas: Lenox Winter Greetings Plaid. It's a new pattern from Lenox. They are beautiful! I can't wait to use them!

  7. Love your Christmas plate photos, but I noticed one of the Lenox ones is called Winter Greetings instead of Season's Greetings.

I have Lenox Holiday and Noritake Holly and Berry Gold. I could never make up my mind which white I prefered, the creamier of the Lenox or the bright white of the Noritake, so I just got both. I am a chinaholic.

  8. I had no idea there were other variations on the classic Spode Christmas Tree! This is my pattern, although I did add a Lenox Holly pattern last year as I entertain so much during the Christmas season, and it is handy to have extra place settings available. We use the Spode Christmas Tree during the month of December, and pull out the Lenox pattern for Christmas Eve/Christmas Day and other special events.

  10. Love so many of those! I have full sets of Lenox Holiday, and this year I bought a set of their new Winter Greetings red and green plaid china - the two sets mix and match well. For Thanksgiving, I have Spode's Woodland...
