Dirty Laundry

Since coming back from our long July 4th weekend, all I am doing is catching up on laundry!
So, I thought I would stage my laundry room and show what I wish it would look like all the time. No before pictures--it would frighten you!

It's a long, narrow room with a door from the hallway on one end and a door to outside on the other end.
A couple of years ago I fell in love with and bought the red LG washer and dryer, hoping it would make doing laundry a little more fun. Not so much, but they are pretty!

I hung the Pierre Deux wallpaper, and installed the red glass cabinet knobs.
For fun, I put a French linen runner across the top of the washer and dryer--a recent purchase from Tracey at French Larkspur.

Looking from the outside in. Dexter is of course always ready to have his picture taken.

The shelf on the wall is antique and is great for hanging clothes right out of the dryer on the pegs.

There is also an antique clothes line for drying lingerie, etc. For now, I hung a few vintage linen towels for staging purposes.

I have some of my vintage red tole trays on display in the room too.

There's a tiny little monster
That is seldom seen
Dwelling within
Our laundry machines

It loves to eat socks
And make undies pink
It works with mildew--
Forgotten loads stink.
-Stacy Fileccia

Uh oh, the dryer is beeping.
Time to go fold a load.

I'm joining my friend Heidi at Heart and Home for Wednesday Gratitude, because even though I hate doing laundry, I'm grateful to have a washer and dryer. A red washer and dryer!
I'm also linking up to Three or More Tuesdays at The Gypsy's Corner.
On Friday, I'll join Cindy at My Romantic Home for Show and Tell Friday.
Thanks Ladies for hosting!

  12. Hi Delores,
I don't blame you, those machines are powerful and very chic in red! Your laundry room is just like I'd expect it to be having seen the rest of your house - perfect in every way. I love the vintage linens hanging from the line, and that wonderful rooster lamp. Beautiful!
It seems I'm always doing at least one load of laundry every day, sometimes many more! I do appreciate the electricity and the big machines that help me!!
    Thanks for linking up.
We should do that as well, and soon!
    XOXO

  19. That is one of the coziest laundry rooms I have seen. I LOVE the red knobs, so fun! I would gladly do laundry in that cute room, the door at the end the of room adds so much to the space. My laundry room is a closet, and I very much dislike the space! LG is the best!

  21. Oh my gosh if I had a laundry room like that I would be thrilled, ours is more like a cave,a dark scary cave...can we trade? PLEASE

  22. I would use this as my bedroom, kitchen living room AND laundry room ... what with the runner and all it could be my tablecloth ... I could line dry my clothes while I ate lunch ... I could then wash my lunch dishes in that clean little sink ... and after lunch I could reach outside the door and do a little gardening ... after gardening a nap would be in order on that beautiful carpet ...
    that's that ... I'm moving in.

  24. Hi Delores,
I love your laundry room! Pierre Deux is one of my favorite places to shop. A few months back my husband and I went to Pierre Deux in SF. A lovely store and purchased a few rugs. The door out back is perfect in the laundry room. My laundry room is inside with no door to the outside.
    A fun post today!
    Have a wonderful week,

  28. Yes a washer and dryer are a beautiful thing. Our laundry room is not yet a reality I am running to my moms house frequently until it is done. My LG's sit waiting patiently in storage.

I've often wondered how in the 1800's and early 1900's they kept all the whites so white. Recently I found a recipe for the cleanest whites. Put your whites in the sink, add some oxygen bleach, boil a large pot of water and then pour over the linens stirring occasionally until they are cool enough to handle. Rinse and wash as usual. It works! My white linens have never looks better. I remember my grandma talking about wash day and how they would have a huge pot outside and they would haul water boil the clothes. No wonder they were so clean. Makes me love my machines even more!

  29. I suspect my current laundry room is sporting your "before" look. I love it Delores. I love the PD wallpaper and putting a lamp in the room just brings so much warmth with style. Great job.

    P.S. Dexter is sooo cute.

  30. Love your laundry room! For whatever odd reason, they are some of my favorite spaces!!!

I've kept a fluffy white towel on top of my front loaders forever, and recently took a linen fabric remnant to cover the tops!

  40. Your laundry room is beautiful, but I agree, even a beautiful laundry room doesn't really make doing the laundry much better. I call mine the laundry monster.
