Go Outside and Plant Something!

"I know that if odour were visible, as colour is,
I'd see the summer garden in rainbow clouds."
~Robert Bridges,

One of my favorite blogs to visit is Trouvais. Trish has the most lovely garden, and she always inspires me to go outside and tend to my flowers. Reading her post here, and seeing all of her lovely flowers made me realize that I need less computer time and more garden time!
A little snapshot of Trish's garden. I love her faux bois table and stone pots.

So, my goal for this weekend and next week is to spend more time in the garden--it really does need some attention.
My potager garden needs help! Why don't we have tomatoes yet? The basil is doing great and wondering the same thing! Nothing like basil on tomatoes.

The Iceberg roses are happy, but they need to be deadheaded. This photo was taken just before the lavender opened up.

Today is #1 Granddaughter's birthday! Happy Birthday Reese! And thank you for reminding your grandma to go outside and smell the roses!

Have a wonderful weekend! Go outside and plant something!

  1. Happy Birthday to precious Reese! What a darling child!

One of my faavorite things to do is play in the dirt! It brings me so much joy and satisfaction! The only negative is living in the Texas heat it is a little harder to get the results that we used to have in Cali...ever the optimist I keep plugging along!

    Enjoy your beautiful space!

  2. Hi Delores and merci! Your lavender looks gorgeous! I am now regretting replacing my old hedges with new plants...impatient for them to be settled in. I can't believe you're a grandmother! XO Trish

  3. Oh, my goodness! This is all so lovely! I have been backing off my blogging lately since the boys are home because of summer vacation. I haven't been gardening, though. I've been doing endless laundry. Delores, why won't the laundry end??? I've never been jealous of you - happy and enjoying everything that you share. Now, I am jealous! I am jealous of your beautiful laundry room! sigh. It's a good thing that I enjoy doing the laundry because, with the situation we have set up, it's a trial. This is next winter's project, though. Maybe, instead of jealousy, I should feel inspiration! Well, enjoy the beautiful CA outdoors!!!

    Love, Katy Noelle

  8. Happy Birthday to your Granddaughter!!
My courtyard looks sad. I pick plants that usually bloom thru the Summer, but this year many have stopped blooming. :( I have watered and fertilized as usual with no luck. My neighbor is having the same problem. I feel sure the early heat wave we had this year has something to do with it all.
Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

  15. Reese is beautiful, she looks alot like my lacey, the same hair and shape to her face. When lace was little she would hide from me and then call out," Where's sacey, she's gone!" I think you found her...

  16. So funny I just finished reading and admiring Trish's garden before coming here! Your garden is amazing too! Love how it's laid out. I can't tell you've been neglecting it :)

Happy Birthday to your darling granddaughter Reese, but I have to say you look too young to have a granddaughter!

  17. I too just finished reading and admiring Trish's garden before hopping over here. I agree with both of you...not so much computer time during our lovely summer weather. I drove way out in the country yesterday and today I plan to be in the garden. Your garden looks wonderful and your granddaughter is beautiful.

  18. Happy birthday to little Reese! Yes, you are right, we should join more time in the garden than on the computer. But at this time, here in Germany it is unusual hot, too hot to plant anything. We just water everything to keep it alive.
Now I will hop over to Trish's blog and look at that. Thank you for this hint.
    Greetings, Johanna

  24. I'm really good and keeping my garden weeded and fertilized but also really good at forgetting to water it. Yes, it's a big deal and I forget it! If if would look like that, I'd never ever forget!
