Here Comes Winter!

Here comes winter! Or rather we got a taste of it last weekend.
Wow has the weather ever changed since the last time we were in Asti nearly a month ago.
We haven't even had a chance to bring in the umbrellas and the cushions!

Or close the windows! There was water everywhere from the last two storms, warping the floor and pouring down the walls in the upstairs pool house.
We cleaned up the mess, turned on a portable heater and crossed our fingers that things would be ok.
Remember? I have plans for a romantic bedroom retreat up there, so I'm hoping there is no real damage.

Summer is just a distant memory now. In fact the summer bridge is now officially closed, which cut 15 minutes off our travel time. It will reopen the first day of summer.
I'm just not ready for winter yet!

Really though, winter is a ways off. I'm glad we still have a lot of fall left to enjoy. In the time since we have been gone, the vineyards have turned yellow and orange. Gorgeous!

I guess having a huge storm coincide with setting the clocks back wasn't good.
This is just too dark and dreary for me!

I'm joining Susan at A Southern Daydreamer for Outdoor Wednesday.

  3. Hi Delores,
this is a big difference between Italian and your weather now. But even the winter has nice days with sunshine. When the storm and rain dissappears you have still a lot of fall time. Time to plan and to design and surely your bedroom will become true and I am so curious, what you make there. Your house is really gorgeous, like Toskana. All the wineries around the house look so great. I hope the rain hasn't damaged your floors in the house.
    Greetings, Johanna

  5. Delores, I noticed this morning how dark it was when I got up and needed the lights on in the house. Now the sky is gray and everything is very still outside, a classic November day. I hope your bedroom retreat recovers from the damage! Looking forward to seeing the transformation. Linda

  7. Oh, it does look like winter. Your home is so glorious and looks like it should have beams of sunlight casting upon it - that cloudy, dreary day just doesn't look right. Time to head in to a cozy fire?

  8. * Don'tchathink it's kind of "nice" to return from your FABULOUS TRIP and have a dark, rainy, romantic day by the fire w/ your Sweetie, sharing a nice cuppa or a glass of wine, just "chillin'" n' remembering your fun time with Alex??? In YOUR home, and with YOUR surroundings, that sounds soooo DIVINE, Delores!!! ENJOY, girlfriend!!! *

    Warmest blessings,

  12. You really captured the mood with your beautiful photos. Sorry to hear about the water damage, I know that all to well with a second home in Vermont, we have had to replace the pipes twice in the past two years due to freezing, not fun.

  15. I am not a Winter person either, and I don't like the time change. I don't care for the gray, dreary days. Hope you don't have permanent damage to your house.

  16. The time change has really brought on the gray...you are right, combining it with a storm is too much all at once! Lovely pictures.

  21. Beautiful pictures. It is getting very dreary here now in the Midwest-all the leaves are gone and the tree fingers reach toward the sun...a couple of warm days and then we will be frozen solid. Ugghh...I do not like winter. Hugs- Diana
