A Candlelight Welcome

For Mr. A's big 60th birthday bash, I welcomed our guests with these lanterns on the front porch.

I bought them from Pottery Barn and plan to use them to welcome guests for the evening wedding in December too.

Nothing says welcome more than candlelight.
And a welcome wreath.

Decking out the front porch is kind of a big deal for me, since we never use this door.
We're back door people, and our friends know to come in through the back door.

But this night was special, and I wanted to create a festive atmosphere.

I like it so much, that I plan on keeping the lanterns out there and changing the flowers to white poinsettias for Christmas. Oh, and the wreath too.
Which reminds me, it's time to start decorating for Christmas.
I'm in denial....

  3. Get out of denial Delores. The time will disappear so fast it will make your head spin.
I have taken a week off of work just to get the house ready for Christmas and the food prepped for our annual Boxing Day open house on Dec. 26

  4. Love the lanterns and the wreath and smiled when I read your comment about christmas denial as I think that my boyfriend is in the same state but he is French and the French normally think about Christmas one week before.

  9. Your front entry looks beautiful! Those lanterns from Pottery Barn are fabulous! Are the candles changeable? They would look so pretty with red candles against the white poinsettias!

It's time for us all to store away the denial and start shopping. Cyber Monday tomorrow will be my first stop!

  11. Delores,
Just beautiful. Such a warm and inviting glow. I love lanterns, too. I have two large ones and a few smaller ones which I love to change around from room to room. They are so versatile. I think lanterns are the new "cloches." LOL Happy Birthday to your hubby. Can't wait to see your lovely home all decked out for Christmas. Blessings, Barb

  24. Stunning, as usual Delores, I love it all. Quick question, can you reply to this post and say how you hang the wreath on the outside of the glass screen door? I have two lovely wreaths on the wood door behind the glass screen door and they are hardly visible until you're up on top of them. Yours looks lovely!! Happy Birthday Mr. A, you're a very lucky man!

  25. Hi Carol,
I attach the wreath with a suction cup to the glass, believe it or not. It holds pretty well, most of the time.
For heavier wreaths, I use two suction cups!
