A Grasscloth Adventure

 I love the look of grasscloth papered walls.  
Such a great way to add warmth and texture to a room.

 After thinking about it for a year and looking at these inspiration photos, I bit the bullet and ordered seven rolls of grasscloth...

...for the living room!

 Turns out, it's not so simple.  My walls are cracked, textured and 106 years old.
So, they had to be smoothed out with sheetrock mud, sanded and primed.

On Friday, the walls were ready for paper and we left town.
Fortunately, my wallpaper installer just loves to work on weekends!
I can't wait to see the final results when we return this evening...

    How exciting!!!! I just put up a Phillip Jeffries grass cloth in a law office...it looks rich next to antiques and bone colored book cases.

    I had my living room and dining room papered i grasscloth for about 20 years I LOVE IT TOO!!! Can't wait to see your living room done with it!

    Well I was going to ask how easy it was, but.... I have been wanting to do it for several years myself but am still on the fence. Cant wait to see your results!

    you are doing it right to hire someone. I have always hung my own paper and grass cloth is the most difficult of all. I have some on the way for my "water closet" and it should be easy since there is nothing in the room at all yet...not even a light fixture

    Ohhhhh what a tease! I cannot WAIT to see it. I have two rolls of grasscloth to install in my wainscotting panels. It has been leaning in the corner of my Liv Rm, in its package, for over a year. :) Procrastinate much? :)

    I'm so glad grass cloth is popular again..am I dating myself? I loved the hallway that Sarah Richardson did on one of her programs. Can't wait to see your living room. I know it'll be gorgeous.

    Hi D! You are going to love it! How perfect for your home. I had grasscloth in my family room and entry in the 70's. Boy is it a bear to take down, but a really easy hanging job as long as he does a reverse roll process, then the seams are not as noticeable. Can't wait to see it all done. It is so fun to come home to a finished project, especially one that you have had on your mind for awhile.

    The best part about grass cloth is that it does not show nail holes--you can move your pictures all you want. I might add, I don't think it ever goes out!

    It's interesting how design trends repeat. My wife and I bought some grasscloth wallpaper for our bedroom while we were in Japan and just had it installed yesterday and it looks stunning. It completely transformed the room. We are so glad we did it. Painted surfaces can't compare to the texture and color that grasscloth brings to a space. It was expensive stuff but well worth the cost. I'm a newcomer to your site but like your taste and have already learned a lot about interior design, etc. from you.
