In early December, I went to the wholesale nursery for seasonal plants to decorate our home and side porch for Christmas.
I came home with this little ivy settee that had space to add your potted plants of choice.
I added narcissus and 6 weeks later, they are still blooming strong.
For the window boxes, I found rosemary topiaries and red cyclamen, which was fine for Christmas, but now, not so much.
White cyclamen would have been better for the duration, but what do I do about the topiaries?
Do they scream Christmas?
Can I shape them in to balls?
I'll admit, the view from the sunroom has been nice.
A real cure for the winter blahs.
But I think if I had it to do over, I would have put white narcissus between the topiaries and white cyclamen in the ivy settee.
Actually, if those cyclamen were pink...
It's all a moot point as the Winter Porch will soon morph in to the Spring Porch with new plants like pansies, daffodils and tulips!

The whole effect is so pretty regardless of the color choices. I personally love the touch of red.
ReplyDeleteDelores I think it all looks wonderful. I have the identical rosemary topiaries and I don't have your problem with the shape because mine are almost dead. The settee is great with the narcissus, but cyclamen would look good too. I think it will be great with some pansies in it.

It looks gorgeous, love topiaries... I think the cone shape is fine for any time, maybe with pink or white, like you said, it would look less Christmassy. Your porch is beautiful!

I don't thibnk the topiaries scream Christmas at all. Have a great weekend. I envy you being able to have anything living outside in winter!!!!!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteIf you put some pink or white or both in with the rosemary cones I think it will look great. There are lots of junipers that grow naturally in the cone shape, I don't think they have to be just for Christmas. The little ivy settee is charming.

Delores, your little garden topiary settee is adorable. I like the idea of planing something low or even something that would drape. It's a great piece to have. I found a metal one last year, but it isn't nearly this cute. I need to get it covered with ivy. ;-)

ReplyDeleteThe Rosemary will grow out if you just let them be, but keep in mind conical topiaries are not just for Christmas.

I love it !! I would leave the rosemary trees as they are!! I love that ivy bench--that will be lots of fun changing it out for the seasons!! Wish I could find one!! Beautiful!

ReplyDeleteDelores, I actually like the rosemary trees. To me, the tree shape is as classic as the round form. But, I'll bet you could shape them into a round shape with a little trimming. The red cyclamen look great with the pop of color..great for Valentine's Day. The little ivy settee is darling, but I'm with you, and probably would put something shorter like the cyclamen in the settee.
