I've Never Met A Tolix Chair That I Didn't Like!

I've never met a Tolix chair that I didn't like!
From the original galvanized version to red, green, white, black and every color in between!

Popular since 1934 when it was first produced, the French Tolix chair has become a classic.
Always a staple in France's bistros, now they seem to be everywhere, especially comfortable in an urban or industrial setting...

...but equally at home in a rough luxe setting.

They are great outdoors...

...and indoors in contemporary, rustic or industrial style rooms.
I love how the Tolix chair can shake things up in a room and add that element of the unexpected.

Even more unexpected is to mix the colors up!

I love these green vintage Tolix chairs!
Vintage, distressed Tolix chairs are expensive and somewhat hard to find.

I do think they look better all rusty and such, especially when used alfresco.

Sundance Catalog sells authentic Tolix chairs in steel only for $245.
But if you want the real deal in every color of the rainbow, then Antiquaire is worth checking out.
They offer over 200 colors starting at $249, as well as vintage Tolix chairs.

Pottery Barn sells Tolix chairs in a choice of four colors for $269, and Design Within Reach is selling them in white or gunmetal for $250 each.
The Tolix Chair has become so popular that everyone it seems is producing a knock-off.
This reproduction Tolix chair is from Zin Home and sells for $175.
I love its rusty finish.

I knew when I was furnishing our wine country vacation rental that I wanted red Tolix chairs for the outside breezeway.
I found very reasonably priced knock-offs through One Kings Lane in sets of four.

Although they aren't rusty and vintage looking, the price was right.
I couldn't be happier.
Besides, I'll just leave them out in the rain for a winter!

What is your feeling about Tolix chairs?
Could you find a place for them in your home or garden?

  2. They look great in many different settings. I even saw knock-offs at World Market in lime green while I was visiting family in Austin. They have some online for $109 too.

  3. Love these, and esp. your new red ones! They (and similar metal chairs) are certainly THE chair of the year...I saw lots at the Cote du Sud home show in Provence in June. If you have a chance, check my slide show on the blog for pictures! Reproduction or original: I love them!

  6. In all of the above images I love them, the red and green are my favorite, red for you green for me, LOL. Not sure they would fit in my decor, but you have shown so many different types of decor that it does open up more possibilities. The red for your rental is perfection,

  7. Love these chairs. We have them surrounding a custom farm table with zinc top on our porch. I got them on sale from Sundance a few years ago. Perfect for rowdy boys!

  8. Loved each color that you showed but I'm partial to the silver! We brought back a bistro table and the stools that are just like the chairs when we went to Provence…I couldn't sell them…meaning…I didn't WANT to sell them so they are at our beach house and are probably my favorite thing there! Loved this post!

  10. The timing of this post is amazing! I just looked at some off white rustic ones yesterday at Anthropolgie. Thinking of getting two for our kitchen table. Loving those antique green ones for sure!

  12. Ummm, just not my thing. Too much contrast for me. And I can't imagine dragging them across the floor, but think there must be good cushion footings on them? They don't look real comfortable to me. I'll stick with my rush seat chairs for now...though I'm sure I will be thinking about these and maybe warming up to them since I learn to like everything you like Delores, lol.

  14. Among the wide range of furniture that can be purchased from manufacturers both online and locally, plastic folding chairs are a popular choice. Have purchased from here-
