Birdcage Crazy

It seems like everywhere I look lately, I see birdcages.
On a recent antique trip, I spied some real beauties like this one.

There was even a gothic birdcage...

A tall birdcage...

A birdcage to hang on the wall...

Round birdcages...

Enormous Victorian birdcages...

So many birdcages!

This one reminded me of one that I had many years ago when I was birdcage crazy.
I collected several, then lost interest.

They can be the perfect decorative object to fill up a space and add architectural interest.

I like to see one behind a sofa table, buffet or even on a baker's rack.

All these birdcages made me wish for one, and I knew right where it would go.

I came home, went online and promptly found this rusty, metal birdcage on One King's Lane.

It's perfect!
For now, I'm leaving it empty but could see it filled with dried hydrangeas or pine cones.

Anything but real birds!

    I have a birdcage that was in my parent's house my whole childhood and then I moved it into my room (sans bird) when I was about 14. It was silver when I laid claim to it and it's been painted every color, including bright orange, since and now it's a basic black. I've always found a spot for it in every home I've lived in and I'm guessing I will keep it until I die. I've just always enjoyed looking at it. Thanks for reinforcing my decision to keep it all these years.

    YES, love birdcages, in fact I have one very similar to one you have pictured, and it is on a sofa table against a wall behind the sofa, just like YOU like them. I have white gravel and pillar candles in mine right now. It has had Christmas balls and lights, moss and terracotta pots and it will have some shells and driftwood this summer. Maybe some Jingle bells and candles for this Christmas.
    YOU are so right the green cage is the perfect piece for your room, LOVE it, you are going to have fun with it this Christmas,

    I wasn't birdcage crazy until I saw all those wonderful examples. I think I like yours best though and can sure see it on my sofa table - void of real birds, of course.

    I like them a lot but have no place to put one. The birdcage you bought looks perfect between the picture frames! In the past I was birdhouse crazy once, but birdcages are much more interesting.

    I have always hesitated to buy one because they make feel so sad for the birds once imprisoned in them. However, as soon as they are filled with something else, like flowers or plants or candles, I love them!

    I also collect birdcages metal ones but my favorite is an a wooden antique one. I love the fact they r so versatile.I place flowers candles and even bed springs in them decorated with greenery and lights . I never am bored with using birdcages looooove!

    I have my black birdcage with pink cups from the 1950's. Yours is lovely - great for Christmas ornaments.

    I have 3 birdcages but tend to only use them in the summer. They look great with plants in them! I like the one you got...very pretty.

    Yes, I love them too but only have 2. I only display them in the Spring and summer.....why???? I now realize I can fill them with anything for any season. Yours IS perfect there. My neighbor has a very tall one like you showed on her hearth. I may just grab it and run one day:):)

    I collected birdcages for awhile too and then sold most of them. I still have a couple which I can't part with. Love all your photos of so many shapes and sizes, but all with so much charm.

    Oh, I am a real "bird brain" when it comes to birdcages! I can't even tell you HOW many I have, but I can't pass them up! Those you shared are real beauties. I was wondering,"Where is this place, and how fast can I get there!"

    Hi Delorse,
    I so collected more then my fair share of birdcages and made some along with birdhouses, but in the years ago when the trend slowed down in designing around them, I took and sold off and gifted many, now I wish I still have some or most of them, I did keep about 3 of them, I had a wall mount one like yours pictured here and can kick myself for giving that one up.
    Lately I have been. Wanting to add to my 3 and do something creative with them.

    This was an inspiring post, as for your new green chippy one I just love it, and it looks great in your home of course any piece becomes a treasure in your beautiful home :)
