It's been a very productive month as I continue with some home improvements that will ultimately prepare the house for sale in the future.
Yes, the time has finally come to downsize and I've been so consumed with that idea and moving forward with "our plan" that I've forgotten to blog!
So here's an update!

The entry with its apple green walls needed a neutral coat of paint.
Or at least that's what the experts told me.
I'm sad to see the apple green go, especially how it works with the dining room wallpaper.
I just closed my eyes, bit the bullet and let Bob the Painter do his thing.
I hate to admit it, but I like it!
I really do!
The drama of the apple green is replaced with a serene, calming off white that lets the architecture of the stairway stand out.
Upstairs, the green walls before...
...and now with the updated look.
I moved the cabinet to make more room in the hallway and replaced it with a console and painting.
I'm thinking a mirror would be better.

I hope it makes a good first impression!
Now that the entry is done, I'll tackle the closets next.

Hi D! I am so excited for you!! A major move after living in your home this long will be hard, but even more exciting than hard. I do love the new color!! I am sampling 4 colors to paint my family room a different color, after living with the same color for 35 years, it feels like I am getting a divorce from paint, LOL,

I love the mirror idea but be sure to check out what it will reflect when you hang it. If all you see is ceiling, it might not be the look you are going for. I feel bad that the common advice today is to depersonalize a home to sell it. Maybe though it helps us separate ourselves from the place we are leaving.

ReplyDeleteIt's been a long time since I visited. The new paint color looks great. It is too bad we have to depersonalize homes so much to sell them. It seems like the silver platter has to be handed out for each buyer these days. Your home is lovely- I doubt it will take long to sell!

ReplyDeleteI think the fresh look is fab, tho I loved the green too. I just helped my parents prep our family home for sale, staging rooms, moving out tons of "things"...seemed like the theme was excess chairs, glass bowls and purses. My sister had truck and trailer loaded to take to her home for a mega garage sale this summer. Made the parting with things easier for them I think. Going from a 4 bedroom home to a very nice 2 bedroom plus office condo meant making lots of decisions about paring down. Your spaces are already staged to perfection...tho can't say you've shared many closet pics, so going to assume like the rest of us you've got some work there. Let it go, let it go...and best wishes on this exciting new stage.

ReplyDeleteOh my heart goes out to you. I never comment on all the wonderful blogs I read but this one hit me where it hurts. We are going through the same thing and it is just so hard. I haven't gotten to where the "experts "come tell me what is wrong with my decorating. Ugh... I dread that. But just so much stuff to purge...it breaks my heart. I just hope our nearly 45 years of marriage can get through it. I'm the pack rat and he is Mr unsentimental. Good luck to you and I will follow closely to your purging closets. Thanks for this post it is comforting to hear someone surviving this huge life changer.

I have just moved into our downsized home. It is tough getting rid of things but also freeing and I am so surprised at how much I love the smaller space. I love your new foyer paint. I spent years with color on the walls but I am really embracing more neutral walls and just pops of color here and there!

ReplyDeleteDelores, I'm late commenting because Blogger wouldn't let me leave a note when I first viewed this post. I like the lighter look, but you know I was a fan of the apple green. Preparing a home for the market is all about neutral I suppose. Not everyone has an imagination. ;-)
