Our First Thanksgiving In San Francisco!

For our first Thanksgiving in our new home, I chose Johnson Brothers Windsorware plates in the Harvest pattern.
This pattern is one of Johnson Brothers' most sought after and hard to find patterns.

I scored the first 8 of these plates 20 years ago in an antique store and 10 more at an estate sale a few years ago.

They go great with the leopard cowhide rug that has been living on the dining table for months.

I added tartan plaid placemats and matching napkins. then layered bone handled flatware and apple green chargers.

The amethyst glasses pick up the purple grapes in the plate and my "A" wine glasses found at a garage sale for $1 each--thanks to my friend Jane--are my choice for the table.

Here is the dining room ready for tomorrow.
It's a small gathering of only 8 this year.

Looking through to the living room.

And looking through the door to the kitchen.
This room is the center of the house.

I used good ole grocery store flowers in a pewter vase for the centerpiece.

Setting the table this morning was so relaxing, almost meditative.
I realized just how much I miss creating and playing with dishes.

I had no idea what I was going to do.
Only that I would use the Harvest plates and keep the leopard rug on the table.
Everything else just happened as I played with what was available, discovering flatware, glasses and napkins that has been packed away for two years.

Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  2. Delores, this is going to be a welcoming table for your first Thanksgiving in this new home. I knew you would come up with something exotic. Love the leopard rug as the base. It is unexpected and really makes a statement. Glad you are back to playing with your dishes. I've missed your tables! Our table is set and ready, but haven't gotten any photos yet. Perhaps tomorrow with some natural light. There will only be seven around our table, and like you, I've been pulling dishes out that have been stored for close to two years. It's like visiting old friends. Happy Thanksgiving!

  4. Thank you for the inspiration Delores. Your tablescape is absolutely gorgeous. The only thing I wonder about is the height of the centerpiece. The people that are seated in the center on either side of the table will not be able to see one another and converse. I really enjoy reading your blog. I lived in Novato in the 80s and really miss San Francisco. I think I am due for a visit in 2017. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

I plan to remove the centerpiece for the actual dinner. Yes it's way too high! Happy Thanksgiving!

  8. Wow! Just wow! I love everything about this table! I've been looking for these chargers for a while now but I can't find them anywhere. I see similar ones, but not like these. What a stunning table, Delores! And your dining room is the perfect setting for it. Those dishes are to die for, the leopard rug, the plaid placemats, the bone flatware, the purple glasses! Pure eye candy! Or should I say, pure pumpkin pie! Happy Thanksgiving!

  12. I just found your blog by searching for reviews of RH's bone flatware, and am so glad that I did! Your Thanksgiving table scape is lovely! Could you tell me how you like the flatware? The hand washing aspect is making me hesitate to purchase.

  13. Hi Renee,
I absolutely love the RH flatware. I hesitated too when I bought them because of the hand washing. But it is wonderful for a holiday dinner or entertaining. As long as you hand wash. Not for everyday, for sure!
