Where Do I Begin?

Where do I begin?
It's been months since I last blogged.
June, in fact.  And, a lot has happened since then.
I'll just cut to the chase.  We sold our house in San Francisco and bought a house in Marin County, just minutes north of the Golden Gate.

Why, you ask?
Well, it's a long story, but bottom line, we didn't love living in the City.
We actually started looking north in Marin at the beginning of last year.
First, focusing on Sausalito.  Then Mill Valley.
I envisioned a small shingled cottage nestled in the trees, somewhere in Marin.

When a shingled cottage came available a few months ago, we jumped on it and were lucky to secure it.
Then came the hard part of selling our home in the City.
It was a hard decision and hard to let it go after all the work we did.
I told myself that it's like HGTV.  Hey, they buy and sell all the time, right?
Think, Fixer Upper!

So, here we are--happy as can be!
We love our little cottage!  And, as you can see, so does the dog and cat!
And guess what?  It's shingled!

Want to see more of our cottage?  Stay tuned, as I'm planning to start blogging again.  I promise!
After all, Vignette Design turned 8 this month and I look forward to reconnecting to some old and new blog friends and followers.

  3. I'm so glad you are back in blogland! Oh, happy for you. I lived for a few years in Novato, north of Sausalito, when my husband was stationed at Alameda. We loved the area. It (and SFO) remain dear to our hearts. It the nice thing about living in Marin County is that you can always visit the "big city." Can't wait for more news about your new home!

  13. Welcome back. My husband and I built a beautiful home in Paso Robles and after 2 years of living there we sold for the very same reason. We are now happily living in Bend, Oregon and Grover Beach California. It definitely keeps life interesting and we don't regret a thing.

  16. Yeah your back! I look forward to seeing your posts on your new home. We just moved into our new home and are settling in. I have been showing a room each time we get a little more settled on my blog. I was wondering, did the fires affect your lovely home in the wine country? I hope not!

  17. Yay Delores! So glad you’re settled into your new home and it really looks cozy and lovely! I always look forward to your posts, happy you’ll be blogging more regularly again. I love your style and your exquisite taste, it’s always fun to see what you’re up to! The house in SF was an amazing project, now you’ve moved on to a place that suits you better and that’s terrific! As for the blogging - I totally get the need to step away for awhile, as you know I never picked it back up after the “tree incident”! I just didn’t have it in me after all that trauma! (But you see that I’m busy on instagram and painting a lot now, so all is good.) Take care, hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving and I look forward to seeing your house all decked out for Christmas!

  18. So glad you've moved to Marin. It is the perfect antidote to the city and I suspect you will come to love it. The glimpse of your new home produced a sigh of happiness from me because it feels like YOUR home! As much as I loved the Marina District place, it never felt like it fit you quite right. But the shingled cottage does!

I've followed you for years, enjoy your posts and love your style. Welcome to the other side of the Bay and hoping you're looking forward to a splendid holiday season.

  21. Woohoo!! I feel like jumping for joy. You are back!!! I've so missed your wonderful posts. Last I saw/heard, you were thinking of moving from the city and by gosh you have done just that. I cannot wait to see the new digs. The pictures look absolutely fabulous. After all the hard work and reno on the city spot.. I can certainly see why it was so hard to let go. But I'm sure you will be happier here. What about Asti??
Glad you are back.. xo marlis

  28. Thank you for coming back to us. I was beginning to worry for you after the fires in Napa. So happy you found a cottage you love. Happiness to you and your honey buns. Bless you.

  29. I am so happy to hear from you! I had just been wondering what had happened that you had stopped blogging. I became worried. Yours is one of the few blogs I continue to enjoy as so many others have gotten so commercial that I can't bear them anymore.

Glad you are on to a new adventure. Sometimes we just don't know what we want or where we will want to live. City living is not for everyone. I thought you might have moved back to your place in the wine country. Will enjoy hearing of your new adventures in Mill Valley.

Welcome back - I will enjoy hearing from you!

  33. I remember all the beautiful, meticulous details, all the agonizing decisions. Your San Francisco home was lovely, and I know your next one is going to be even more special. Thank you for bringing us along on your journey. Blessings in your new home!

  34. This cottage feels more like you. Your last home before SF was my all time favorite house of bloggers and I can see this one being my new future favorite. Can't wait to see what you do with it. I'm from Sonoma originally and left in 1995, so visiting you is a little like being home again.
