Kitchen Progress: Going Green

Now I know why I procrastinated about painting the kitchen.
It's a big deal.

Day one was just taping off and tenting.

The painting contractors formed a barrier between the kitchen and family room.

Everything that was in the cabinets, is now on every table and flat surface in the house!

The moment of truth when the first coat of color went on.

Too late now, we're going green!

As you can see, all the doors and drawers were first removed.
They're at the painter's shop, while the frames, obviously
 need to be sprayed onsite.

The island will remain black, but it gets a newer, distressed look.

After the cabinets were sprayed green, they were distressed, then a brown glaze applied.
The final coat was a clear, protective coat.

 BEFORE

AFTER!

Next week, the doors and drawers go back and it's a wrap.
Stay tuned for the final reveal!

  9. Delores,
I'm thinking I like the green...at least what I can see of it! When I painted our dark mahogany cabinets years ago, I too, had dinnerware and glassware all over the house. Before I put things back, I edited and then washed and dried everything. The fresh look was, totally , breathtaking!!! This is going to be a stunning kitchen reveal!
    Fondly,
    Pat

  21. Hi Delores, Your kitchen color looks so pretty--can't wait to see the final reveal. I have been thinking of having my cabinets painted too, instead of replacing. Do you know what kind of finish was on yours originally? My cabinets are stained cherry Rutt (from the 80s complete with brass knobs--you know the look) and we had planned to redo the kitchen but too many other things have come up, so I'm thinking paint. Will it work over that stained finish? Thanks! Linda
