Once In A Blue Moon

It's a blue moon tonight!
Not really blue--it's just an expression that means we have a rare occurrence of an extra full moon this month.

The last one was December 2009 and the next one is July 2015.
Of all nights to be overcast, it looks like we won't be seeing the moon tonight...

It's kind of weird that Neil Armstrong, the first person to walk on the moon was laid to rest today.
His family asked that when we "see the moon smiling down at you, think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink."

So even though I can't see the moon tonight, I will be sure to remember him and pay tribute to the original man in the moon!

Oh, and by the way, I've had this song in my head all day long!

  1. Thank you for this beautiful and timely post. As I write this, from Toronto, the Blue Moon is outside my window and I have been on the balcony admiring it and I shall return and give a wink for Neil. It is a perfectly clear summer's night.

    Have a glorious weekend

  3. Can you even imagine what it was like for him to step onto the moon? It always makes me think of the children's book, "Goodnight Moon!" I love it!

  4. Delores, I'm so happy to see this post. I've been thinking of doing a Blue Moon post all week, but simply didn't get one created. So thank you for doing this. Lovely tribute to Neil Armstrong. Beautiful images!

  6. We sat at the shore of the lake {Ontario} last night and the moon was shining down so bright. We talked about Neil Armstrong while we gazed up. I imagine many people looked up at the sky last night and thought of him.
We were all lucky to have had such a brave explorer in our lifetime.

  8. I heard that part of the family's statement as well, last SAT. I made sure to look up at the big Ol' moon and give him a wink, and a thank you.
I love the Chris I. song too.

  9. Beautiful post Delores!
I caught the "Blue Moon" of December 2009, in the wee hours from my porch in Sun Valley. It was a surreal sight-I'm including the link to it here as I don't know how to post just the photo into a comment!
I will be thinking of Neil Armstrong when I look to the heavens this week.
