A Modern Barstool With A French Twist

The barstools have given me a lot to consider.  I didn't want them to be another fabric that had to coordinate with the kitchen club chairs and drapes, but I wanted to avoid leather too, as there is a fair share of leather already in the house.
The truth is, barstools have always been a challenge because there isn't much to choose from.
I even wrote a post several years ago called "Barstools--The Good, The Bad And the Ugly."
But I digress...
Last week, I went to Serena and Lily on Sacramento Street to order the two upholstered club chairs for the kitchen and noticed these stools.  At first I dismissed them because they are so modern, but then I had an aha moment!

Looking at the woven abaca pattern, I noticed that these were the colors that I've been working with throughout the house.

Tobacco or camel, black and white.
I followed my gut and placed an order for three, just in time to get the 20% discount!
They arrived in two days and now I'm kind of freaking out as they are such a departure from my typical traditional look.  I do think that they will provide a much needed contemporary vibe and also go with that natural, organic theme that includes grasscloth, a few rattan pieces and woven shades.
They also go great with the upholstered kitchen club chairs which I will share later...
Your thoughts?

  3. Well, I love your new kitchen cabinets and the tops!! I'm trying hard not to covet them!! But, I do think these stools are too modern-ish for me.

  4. I do like the look. I just changed out barstools and went with no backs, so the view is more stream lined. Without backs when pushed under the counter, you get the full view of the kitchen. They have cushioned seats and are so comfortable. Also, I noticed your space looked a bit tight for three stools. I almost went with three and then decided on two. If three people ever tried to sit in my space at one time they would be elbowing each other. I never thought I would put that much thought into barstools!

  5. I love the bar stools, and I think they will complement your kitchen well. The stools with a back are much more comfortable than those without a back. One can sit back and relax while drinking that wonderful French wine and enjoying the brie and apples.

  6. I love them - I would buy them in a minute....I don't think they are too contemporary at all - I look at them as being more natural and organic. I don't see the Mexican aspect either - I see natural, lots of texture and neutral !

  7. Patricia: This is my cousin's home in Mexico (used for a mag awhile ago), she's since lightened the deco with new accessories and chairs that I found very similar to these.
On the other hand, the more rustic international looks so share similar charachteristics. The chairs, I think, now, would look great in your kitichen Debbie. :)

  9. They are perfect, Love the texture and they feel very transitional to me, not too modern/contemporary at all. We just had a discussion about bar stools today. I am fine with what we have but it was Doug who brought it up, shocker of the day, that rarely happens. I bet yours look fantastic in your home when you get them, how exciting!!
