I Heart My New Countertops!

I've been dreaming of soapstone countertops for years!
Should have put them in our old house and I cannot even remember why I didn't, but whatever, my dream came true Saturday!

We were out of town, so my contractor texted me these photos.
He was worried about veining here and there, but after seeing them this morning, I can say that they are absolutely perfect!

That big vein to the right of the sink?
I love it!

The island is just a big ole hunk of soapstone!

I'm glad I didn't opt for the bigger edge.
Notice how the fabricator matched the veins...

I envision many family gatherings and dinner parties in this kitchen.
There will be plenty of room to congregate here!

Here's where the three counter stools will live.
I actually bought them last week and they were delivered on Saturday too.
Talk about fast.
Stay tuned...

  3. They are beautiful!!! I chose soapstone, also, but I went for Imperial Danby (in a two inch slab) on my island. I'm curious - what finish is on your soapstone? It looks so shiny compared to mine. I have used a soapstone conditioner on mine that I read about on For The Love of a House.

I have really enjoyed watching your renovation. You have a great eye and I look forward to seeing how things progress! Susan

  10. Oh Delores....How much fun to see these updated photos. I stood in that kitchen just a month ago and can't believe how it looks now. It is such a sunny wonderful room. I have to come back to see the final kitchen and have a glass (or two) of wine by the windows. You are doing good...keep going!!! Bonnie

  11. When we built our last house I asked for soapstone, but the builder was clueless and we were buying in a subdivision with only "so many" choices. I got black granite, but it was not what I wanted. Someday. I think it's beautiful!

Really excited to see the whole house finished - especially the kitchen. And I love the white cabinets (I'm a sucker for a white kitchen- can't help it!)

    Love seeing the progress.....

  14. They are gorgeous Delores and you will l.o.v.e. living with them! Don't know if you saw my post on soapstone, but I use a natural wax sealer instead of mineral oil which is petroleum based...
