Sol + stice derives from a combination of Latin words meaning "sun" + "to stand still." As the days lengthen, the sun rises higher and higher until it seems to stand still in the sky.
It's officially Summer today! As of 7:28 EST, the summer solstice began.
I am looking forward to this summer filled with barbecues, fresh tomatoes from our garden and late night chats under the stars. These are a few things that come to mind when I think of summer.
What are the first three things that come to your mind when you think of summer?
I'll be joining The Tablescaper for Summer Sundays. Be sure and visit to see more summer inspiration. It's all about what summer means to us.

Delores What an amazing view and a perfect spot to sit and gaze. When I think of summer I think of later dinners, warm breezes in the evening, sitting on the patio listening to the last songs of the bird. I also think back about the boys playing out late until the street lights came on.That was their cue to come in from the court where there was always a game of baseball going on, we would watch them while we sat on the porch and they would glance over to make sure we were watching their last throw. Sweet memories!! Kathysue
Delores, the first three things that pop in my head is hot, humid and air conditioning. We are already above normal with our 98 degree temps. You views are just stunning as usual and I could sit there and look out at that all day.
How beautiful. When I think of summer I think of heat and wonderful flowers.
Summers here in the South are hot and humid, so we look forward to Fall when we have perfect beach weather again. Then we laugh when everyone else is donning sweaters and we're splashing in the water and catching some rays.
But, we do love our lemonade, iced cold watermelons and a nice breeze now and again.
I must tell you that I miss celebrating summer solstice in Santa Barbara!
What a breathtaking view. When I think of summer I think of warm sunny days, setting up the croquet set on the lawn, catching fireflies and
beautiful starry evening skies.
Beautiful pictures! In the South - Hot, humid and mosquitoes! :D
Such beautiful pictures! I think of iced tea, fresh veggies and a cool body of water to jump in!
When I think of summer here on the plains, I think of unrelenting heat/humidity, mosquitoes and fireflies.
Long days in the pool! Long evenings with friends and July in La Jolla! The last is my favorite! We are usually very ready to escape the heat by then and can't wait to see our beloved ocean we miss while living in Texas!
Your view is gorgeous!
Hsppy First Day of Summer!

Happy first day of summer, your photos are everything summer should be...beautiful weather and beautiful surroundings!
And I think of popsicles, flip flops, kayaking, lightning bugs, and lazy days when I think of summertime!
Kat :)
I think of the song of the marsh frogs at night, the mourning doves in the morning, shuttering the house against the bright sunshine to keep it cool....grilling on
the deck as often as possible and light
until at least 10PM {we are very far north}.
Love your views, Delores! What a slice of
heaven.... xx Suzanne
I'm off to Colorado and am told mosquitos are going to be something I think of first when I think of summer. I'll take mosquitoes over this 110 degree heat.
Love your beautiful shots of summer.
Good morning my friend in this beautiful new summer and in this blessed land across land, seas and oceans from me...It has been cold here in the northern swamps, but ...the weather from of today is promising...Lavender blue and corn yellow: wow. I'll sure visit again.
Enjoy

Ahhh. Summer...flipflops, sand on the floor, ocean sunrises, evening rides., afternoon storms, rising heat. cool stone floors.
But then...that's winter...and fall and spring here too!
Hi Delores,
Beautiful, beautiful photographs! I love lavender - so pretty and the girls identify me with the fragrance, it's my favorite. Soothing and refreshing at the same time!
Around here Summer means beach bonfires and lots of s'mores! YUM.
I'm looking forward to a nice visit with you soon.
XOXO
