Pool House Bedroom Makeover

Here is a sneak peek at the pool house bedroom. It's not finished yet, but at least the children's twin beds are gone and the new French Academie queen bed from Restoration Hardware is finally set up.

I'm so glad I made the decision to put a queen bed in here. Almost everyone in my family said to keep the twin beds. I actually had ordered the French Academie beds in twin, then changed my mind a month later. Luckily they were all backordered anyway, so eventually this queen bed was delivered. We put it all together Saturday night. What a job!

The trunk from the Hillsborough Antique Show is a little too short, but for now it will do.
The sconces above the bed need to be replaced with sconces that have pull chains since the switch is now hidden behind the headboard!

I'm keeping the bedding clean and simple. The walls, now a bright yellow will be painted a neutral color. The curtains are French stripe linen, reminiscent of grain sack material.
My goal is a romantic retreat for guests.

Here is the "Before" photo.
The Vermont Tubs twin beds now belong to granddaughters Reese and Zoe.
Although I love this room, it just wasn't the romantic look I was going for. Also, no one wanted to sleep up here! After all, there is no heat, and the bathroom is downstairs....

...which is ok, if it's summer! Otherwise, one must brave the elements just to go to the bathroom!

However, I think it's worth the trouble!

The spa at the bottom of the stairs.

The pool house. That little square on the top is the bedroom.
The bedroom without heat, and without a bathroom!

The "After" photo.
Any takers?

Hello Delores,
The artist panel bed in queen reminds me of a victorian one I had many years ago in full size, I just love them.

I almost thought it was a Corsican iron bed until you mentioned where it came from. I have all queen Iron beds in all my rooms made from antique parts, I think they look so inviting. The room has a european retreat feel and look to it, a truly peaceful room to love :)

I would love a peceful visit if this was a guest room offered to me as your guest :) They will be delighted and spoiled girl. Not to mention it can be a getaway room for you and your honey here and there.

You inspire beauty to love.

Delores, I love that bed and love the bed cover. That is gorgeous. Maybe you could try a couple of old suitcases stacked under the wicker chest to raise it up. Or something else stacked. We found the best little quiet heater for our sunroom. It is by Bionare and sold at Lowe's. I end up turning it down it gets so warm. It rotates and has a thermostat and a remote control. Thanks for sharing this at the party.

Delores, I am first in line to be a "taker". In fact I would move in as the HELP! Beautiful!

The trunk looks perfect in the room. How about puttng it on a base or bun legs? I'd just raise it up a bit, but keep it exactly where it is.

I could pick your gorgeous style out anywhere!

Suffer I shall and never let an ill word pass my lips.. I'd be the first to say I'd jump at the chance. The room is certainly romantic and inviting. i can just imagine awakening up there to see the scenery and then see the water.. Lovely.

I like the vibe here. A bit fresher. Definitely inviting and comfortable and I love the shot of the two robes. Such a nice touch for guests.

We have a second home with multiple guest rooms and and one room used to have twin beds in it because the kids would often bring friends. Now the kids are getting married and the room with the twins was always for whomever arrived last. :( So we are in the middle of replacing them with yet another king. I know that in five years somebody will start having babies and i will be going back to the twins. Decorating like life.... always evolving. :)

Please add me to your guest list. I'd have NO problem venturing down the stairs to that bathroom. The robe looks to be my size. :)
What a lovely retreat...

Beautiful Delores! I love the bed and the bedding ~ a wonderful retreat for guests. And the bathroom downstairs, makes it that much more charming!

P.S. Thank you for the BM paint color names. I went with the darker shade and love it! Since it is darker, I am limiting it to an upstairs loft area that you see the color from downstairs. Now trying to find complimentary colors for the rest of the house!

I agree the walk to the bathroom is worth it to stay in that room! Love the bed, it fits the look perfectly.

I love the wicker trunk by the bed and if it was me, I'd run to Lowes and grab four cute cabinet feet, stain 'em and attach them to the bottom of the basket with double stick tape. Problem solved and cute to boot!

What a beautiful extra room.

I would go down the steps to that GORGEOUS bath! What a beautiful pool house you have there. I just love your style, Delores! Have a great week! XO, Pinky

Love the room! I'll be your guest anytime ;)To make your trunk work, how about placing a vintage looking crate under the trunk to elevate it?

Hi Delores,
Are you kidding me? I can be there in a hearbeat. Just give me some time to find my mittens and I'm good to go. It's always freezing in my house anyway, so I'm used to it! I love the guest room's new look, and esp. adore that duvet. Lovely!
Take care my friend,

I really like the room--I'd stay there for sure. Could you have a wrought iron base made for the trunk to bring it up to the ideal height?

Delores,
Book my reservation now! I don't even mind that it isn't completed yet! No heat, no bathroom. . .not a problem. I grew up in a Victorian two~story historical home and had similar accomodations!
Had you thought of placing a rustic bench under the wicker trunk to raise the level? Just a thought! Thank you for the before and after photos. Know those granddaughters are enjoying their "new" beds!
Fondly,
Pat

Delores, I'd be thrilled to walk outside to make my way to the bathroom from this beautiful guestroom. What a beautiful bed, and I LUV that bed covering! Maybe you can find one of those flat, wicker picnic baskets to put on top of the trunk to give it more height. laurie

I would gladly spend the night or a weekend in this room...wouldn't bother me to take the stairs outside to the bathroom. The room is lovely. I love the queen bed instead of the twins. Such a beautiful setting. I think if I lived in the main house....I'd still want to come out and stay in the pool house as a vacation.
