One Last Tour

When we listed our San Francisco home, our realtor hired a professional photographer for the brochure and online website.
At the time, I intended to write a post about selling the house, but just couldn't bring myself to do it!

Better late than never they say.
So, here are a few of my favorite photos of the house.

I thought enough time had gone by that I could revisit these photos and the house without feeling sad.

But, I'm proud of the remodel and how everything turned out.
It was one of the best experiences working with my contractors and together creating this home.

We turned the challenge of this oval dining room into an asset with herringbone floor and wallpaper.

Together, we shopped for the beautiful soapstone in the kitchen and designed the cabinets too.

 I love those drapes!
So much, that I excluded them from the sale.

The kitchen is probably the room I miss the most.
However, the kitchen in our new house is very similar in layout--minus the soapstone...

 ...and minus the refrigerator!

The master bedroom.

The master bathroom.
I miss it too!

Actually, I miss the master closet the most!
Ironically, it turned out to be a problem when we sold because buyers wanted a fourth bedroom, which is what this closet was originally.

The family room which opens to the courtyard.

That grasscloth was such an obsession.
So much so that I'm considering putting it in the new house too.

 The courtyard.

 Guest room # 1

 Guest room #2

The laundry room, conveniently located across from the master bedroom.

 The powder room.
I don't think I had any photos of this room before.
It was fun wallpapering it in this stripe grasscloth.

A long, wide hallway that was an awkward space to decorate became an office.

Off the kitchen, an atrium which has a spiral staircase leading to the roof deck.

 The roof deck.
We rarely enjoyed this space as it was usually too cold and windy.
We did however, see the Blue Angels a few days before the move from here.

We loved this house!
It had curb appeal, which is hard to find in the City.
The inside was wonderful and designed to our taste, and I certainly enjoyed the remodel process.

What we struggled with was the location.  We learned that we aren't really city people.  We're more suburban people!
Being surrounded by a garden and trees as opposed to apartments is better for our soul.

Wow! What a beautiful home you created! The changes were perfect!
Your desire for the burbs must have strong. I'm sure your new house is just as wonderful and I can't wait to see it. Thanks for posting these. I'm going to save them for future inspiration.

Beautiful home but if it isn't where your heart is, then you should move to where it is! In Nov. 2012 we moved from Houston to Ft. Worth to a patio home we remodeled. In Jan. of 2016 we started the process of moving from Ft. Worth to Austin to be near our son & his family who were moving from Chicago. I miss many parts of the remodeled patio home, but we built a new house here. We are much happier here & it just feels right now. I imagine this new area will feel right for you as well. Moving allows for new adventures & I think you will find more in your new area.

Delores, thanks for sharing the photos. It's fun to see the transformation you carried through on this house. It is so easy to get attached to our homes. There is so much of our personal time and emotion that goes into creating a home. Funny, but I felt a loss after you sold your previous home. I had come to love that big ole home with your fabulous taste showing in each and every room. I know you will transform your new home. Plus you have Asti!

You did a beautiful job on the City house. Someone will love it. But look forward to your new adventures as you style your Marin home.

Love your style.

You did an amazing job with this home. I totally understand the reason for moving there and the reason for selling. A few years ago we moved to Greenville, SC. A city much bigger than we normally would live. We thought we wanted that city life. Turns out the traffic and noise were way too much for us. So we sold a year ago and built a new home, which we just moved into about 6 weeks ago.

I am so happy that you shared photos with us. Your work on that home is truly amazing and it turned out so beautifully. I have no doubt that you can take all that you learned and make your cottage "yours". I hope that you will share that with us, as well. You have such talent. (we also love the "idea" of a city home but we have learned that we need a little elbow room and space to wander to be truly happy) Good luck! I am looking forward to more blogging and photos!

You are my inspiration; I love everything about your style and completely understand the need for elbow room and a bit of green. A cottage in Marin sounds like a dream and I'm sure you will enjoy creating there as well...it's in your nature. I look forward to your photos.

Also, I must say, I thought of you and your beautiful home in Asti as the fires raged. Heartbroken for so many who have been affected but grateful your place survived; what a frightening experience!

How did you like having your washer and dryer stacked? Ours are side by side on pedestals now but I am considering stacking them to give me more usable storage space when we redo the floors in our laundry room.
