Demo Day!

Demo day was about as exciting as you can imagine!
In preparation for it, I emptied everything from the kitchen and stacked it all in the dining room.

Goodbye kitchen.
Goodbye center island that I've probably walked around a million times!

 Goodbye bathroom...

 Goodbye family room!
Yes, that's a toilet.  Doesn't everyone have a toilet in the family room?

Our contractor, Paul built a wall between the construction zone and our living space.
Right down the middle of the hallway!

He then sealed off the door between the dining room and kitchen.
The refrigerator will go in front of it for the duration of the construction.

When the demo crew arrived--all eleven of them, it took them just eight hours.
This is looking at the kitchen from the family room.
That wall will come down when we put up a header.

The kitchen during demo.

For now, this is our kitchen.
We have a microwave, refrigerator and toaster.
What more does one need?

It looks like you have a bar. Much needed during construction.

Whoa!! And I thought my kitchen remodel was a huge project!! We didn't move any walls, so it was a piece of cake, compared to yours. I wish you lot of patience and some really fast contractors!!! Looking forward to following the progress! One thing is for sure--it will be beautiful once it's finished!

Hmmm...wonder how we are going to handle OUR remodel? We are buying a large, 250-year-old stone house in France. The current owners started a remodel but never finished. There is no kitchen but there IS a working toilet in what will be OUR kitchen - no sink for washing hands, however. That toilet will be relocated to a new powder room under the stairs ASAP! We plan to live upstairs temporarily to supervise the workers who will make the main floor liveable.
There is a full bath complete with orange walls, purple tile and a black floor! For a kitchen we will have a dorm fridge, a microwave and a toaster oven in one of the bedrooms. Hopefully, over 4 to 6 weeks, the shutters will be installed along with new flooring on the main floor, new stone steps to the front door, the kitchen area demoed and central heating added (ie: radiators). We'll then head back to southern California for the winter. Hope to have Before-And-After photos on MY feed in the next few months.

Exciting@ Love how your contractor put up plywood walls ... much more effective than the plastic with zipper entry. Goodbye construction dust! Sounds like your temporary kitchen has everything you need ... just add bar! Let the fun begin!

I hope in the meantime that you can share some of your design choices (cabinets, tile, countertops, flooring, paint etc.). I have no doubt everything will be gorgeous!

Oh, the joy of remodeling! We hope to begin our project soon. Not looking forward to the mess and disruption, but the end result will be worth it. I know you feel the same way.
All the best for a speedy project!

This gives me heart palpatations! Have you tallied how many times you've been through this process? I'm reaching the age(ha, who am I kidding, I'm already there!) where these projects take too much out of me, so bless you! Can't wait to see the completed project!
