New Year's Quotes and Toasts

It's time to say goodbye to the old and hello to the New Year.
Here are a few of my favorite toasts or quotes to commemorate the passage of time:

"Another fresh new year is here, another year to live!  To banish worry, doubt and fear, to love and laugh and give!"  ~ William Arthur Ward

"May your troubles be less and your blessings be more and nothing but happiness come through your door."  ~Traditional Irish Blessing

"Here's to the bright New Year and a fond farewell to the old; here's to the things that are yet to come and to the memories that we hold."  ~Unknown

"Many people look forward to the New Year for a fresh start on old habits."  ~Anonymous

And finally:

"Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year."  ~Ralph Waldo Emmerson

Happy New Year!

2013 Tablescapes In Review

St. Valentine's Day Tablescape
Looking back at the tablescapes I created this year, I realize that it was "tablescape lite" for 2013.
Possibly because I have featured most of my plates and linens already, or I just wasn't all that inspired this year.
Whichever the excuse is, here is a retrospect.

A Christmas Day Tablescape
Although it was "tablescape lite" this year, I realize that each tablescape was a "working"one.  In other words, we actually broke bread at each setting so these tablescapes come with special memories.
Looking forward to 2014 and another year of beautiful memories, surrounded by family and friends and hopefully more tablescapes!

A Christmas Day Tablescape

 Merry Christmas!
It's Christmas morning, everyone is still asleep and I finally have time to reveal my Christmas 2013 table that has taken me days to create.

My muse and inspiration is this reindeer plate from Homegoods.
It took me weeks to accumulate enough, going to three different stores.
Eventually, I gave up and just ordered them from eBay!

I already had the tartan plates, placemats and napkins which all seemed to go together.
The charger is pewter and picks up the silver silhouette of the deer on the candles.

For the centerpiece I filled a silver ice bucket with red roses, white mums and eucalyptus leaves.
It smells wonderful.

I eliminated the runner and instead laid fir branches from the Christmas tree lot all down the table.
Two candlesticks with white candles decorated with reindeer are on either end, along with a pair of pine cone candles and a pair of tapers.

At each place setting, I used mini trees in little bark pots.
My guests can take them home as a favor.

Each little tree has their name on it!
I found the tartan picks at the flower mart and knew they would be perfect in the trees.

I really had fun setting the table this year, anticipating using the reindeer plates and the mini trees...

...it all came together for something fresh and traditional at the same time.

As the morning sun streams in, I am thinking of all my family sitting together at this table later today with the candles lit, enjoying the traditional dinner of lamb and pilaf.
There will be much laughter and love.
I can't wait!

Merry Christmas to all the followers of Vignette Design!
I truly appreciate your support and love hearing from each and every one of you!

May your day be filled with love, laughter and the joy of Christmas!

It's Reindeer Season

It's reindeer season around here!

They're hiding in the tree...

...in all shapes and sizes.

Tartan reindeer...

...and felt reindeer.

They're even under the tree!

Reindeer are everywhere!

Lanterns on the Christmas hutch...

...and like the "elf on the shelf," I even have a reindeer on the shelf!

It seems that I have a theme without even realizing that I had a theme!

It will be the theme of this year's Christmas tablescape.
Stay tuned for more to come...
