Fall In The Dining Room

Fall has arrived in the dining room, thanks to the addition of my current inspiration, an antique dough bowl.

I've been looking for a wooden dough bowl for years and finally found one at a consignment store, of all places.

Without any documentation as to its authenticity or age, I knew I was taking my chances buying it.
What if it was new?

I decided not to care and brought it home, then promptly filled it with potted plants, fall leaves and gourds.
It is such a great centerpiece for the table--I can envision it filled with pumpkins in the fall, pine cones or ornaments during the holidays and tulips in the spring!
In fact, there is no end to the inspiration this dough bowl will provide!

I'm linking to Marty at A Stroll Thru Life for Inspire Me Tuesday.

I love it. What a great piece and I am glad you bought it. You would have kicked yourself later if you hadn't.
It is really going to be versatile isn't it.

Oh my gosh...I'm so jealous. It's perfect! You don't see those around too often. There was one at our antique mall a few years ago and I oogled over it for months--but it was like 300 dollars. I went in there one day and it was gone! Sidenote: I LOVE your dining room wallpaper. I also have the same green as you have in your foyer--in my kitchen. Your house makes me want to redecorate. I wallpapered our dining room last year with a silvery grey print, much like yours and I'm not happy with it. My wallpaper before that was green, and I miss it. :o(

Magnificent! What a wonderful addition to your dining room.
Side note: I love your home and decor! I'm eyeing your wall paper as I'm planing to do my master bedroom very soon.
As always, thank you for your inspiring photos.

This is really beautiful! May I ask the dimensions of your tablecloth? I have a 10' long, 4' wide dining table and have been looking for a cloth that can be used exactly as the one you are displaying. The width and position of my table make an all over cloth look like nothing but fabric in mid-air. It pleases me more to see some of the table showing. Thanks for you help.

I love your dough bowl, old or not, it is beautiful. I love how you have filled it. I want to ask you, do you have luck with your ivy topiaries? For some reason I do NOT have luck with ivy and it is supposed to be so easy to grow. Can you tell me your secret????

Beautiful centerpiece, well done. You have inspired me to do the same with my dough bowl. Did you line it with some type of protection so the moisture won't damage the wood?
Love your blog!

I lined the bowl with tin foil to protect it from moisture.
To water the plants, I pulled them out individually so as not to damage the bowl. Not exactly convenient but the plants eventually start to deteriorate anyway--especially the begonia flowers. ~Delores

Gorgeous and perfect in your home. I too have wanted a dough bowl, I find them so warm and inviting and they add just the right texture and patina to any room. My favorite is when they are filled with shiny red apples or green apples, love that look.

Wow Deloris, your table is beautiful! I love how you filled your newly acquired dough bowl . Your topiaries look fabulous. Please tell me they are new and you haven't kept your other ones looking so good! I need to know your secret if they are not new.

Great fall table.

Hi Delores,

I love your dough bowl. May I ask the dimensions of the bowl? You did a great job filling it and making it look so warm and inviting. Thanks for sharing it.

Trust your eye! That is not new!

You can tell! What a great addition to your divine tables capes!

Bravo!

Delores; you give so much confidence to others via this blog1 It is such a gift!

I have often told young people who want to become decorators......."don't go to school for decorating!!!"

(I truly believe it cannot be "taught" ; and great decorators are loving doing it......they have no time to teach it!)

(just my opinion)!

Now, in 2013; I have started saying:

"Subscribe to the top decorating blogs!"

It is "top decorating school"!!

And yours is one of them!

Bravo!
