Blue Velvet Is Not Charcoal

I've resisted posting lately about our house, simply because it's still a work in progress.
Take for instance the living room.  I thought I had it all figured out ahead of time.
Charcoal gray velvet Chesterfield sofa with two caramel leather club chairs.
Turns out, there really are 50 shades of gray!

When the charcoal gray sofa arrived, I knew immediately it was wrong.
Does this look charcoal gray to you?
It's blue!

I tried living with it for a few weeks, but there were just too many things wrong with the sofa besides the color.  It is on wheels--front and back, so that when you sit in it, it rolls backwards and dents my new hardwood floor!  Little cups under the wheels didn't work.  It was like sitting on a skateboard!
Also, it had been wrapped so hard that on one end, the velvet was permanently dented.
Oh, and did I mention how uncomfortable it was to sit on?  Like sitting on plywood!

To make a long story short, the sofa went back.
And am I lucky that they took it.
The living room will be empty for a while until I decide what to replace the sofa with.
I'm leaning towards a Chesterfield from Restoration Hardware in a true charcoal gray velvet.
The best part is that it's not on wheels!

I'm so happy for you that they actually took it back. Your eye was right, you'd have been fighting wheels and blue the rest of its life! Your new home has beautiful bones. Really enjoying the process. Hugs, marlis

Can I just say how grateful I am, Delores, that you are posting through your process - the good, the bad and the "oh-man-that-is-seriously-wrong" ugly? Everything you do is done to such perfection, it is comforting to know that it is a process and not some magic wand you have in the lovely head of yours. There is hope for me yet!

You are a wise woman to take it back, when it is not right it is just not right!! I know you have never been a lover of blue so I can only imagine your angst when they unwrapped the blue velvet. Moving and setting up home is a long process and just think we have the rest of our lives to do it and enjoy the process!! Good luck with any other upcoming projects,

Oh my word, on wheels is not a good thing. So glad they took it back.

I am glad they took it back too. You should always be happy with what you bought. I miss the old days when there was only one color of grey or one color of blue.

Whatever you do, don't choose the pure down version of any couch at RH. The men in my life hate it. It's goes flat and they say it's completely uncomfortable. I'm so sorry I bought my couch there.

Oh this makes me sad! I'm thinking your green velvet couch must be gone? Absolutely love the floors!

Gosh Delores, isn't it the worst when something arrives and it's not at all what you expected?! At least you got to return it, that's the good part. I think an RH sofa will definitely be quality construction and they are very comfortable. And I know they have a TRUE grey!! (How did it end up being that blue, btw?!!)

Loving the progress....

That's great that they took it back! It would bother you forever if you tried to convince yourself to keep it. I am sure the RH one will look fabulous. You always pull a room together so beautifully and I can't wait to see how it turns out!

That sofa was definitely blue! I love the rest of the room though -- everything looks awesome! Thanks for letting us peek in on your work in progress; sometimes I learn more from what hasn't worked for people than from seeing perfect rooms!

OMG!!! Your look is so different now. Still wonderful but very different. I wasn't prepared. :)
So glad they took the sofa back, it was indeed blue! Restoration hardware always gets it right, go there!!!

I love your beautiful, large living room. I'm sure glad they allowed you to return the sofa. Wheels may have been fine (especially when you want to rearrange your furniture), but why didn't they design the wheels to lock? Are you able to visit the store to see and sit on the next sofa candidates? Comfort, seat height and depth, etc. is all so subjective. I can hardly wait to see what you choose.

Definitely blue. You can't go wrong with and RH couch!
