Master Bathroom Reveal

When we bought our home, we knew that virtually everything needed to be touched, starting with a new roof, and then the master bathroom.
We actually started construction on the bathroom before we moved in and that helped alleviate some of the pain of living through the remodel.

For at least a month I drove back and forth, an hour each way to be on site and supervise.
Demo day was so exciting.  I couldn't wait to get rid of the old and see the space completely gutted.

This is why we took on the bathroom first.
It wasn't functional at all--rotten, moldy and poorly designed.

The shower was tiny, yet the toilet area was big.
I decided to make the shower larger and shrink the toilet area, by turning the toilet.

Now we still have a private toilet space and a large shower!

There is even room for a bench.
I chose carrara marble subway tile for the walls and basketweave carrara tile for the floor.

I especially love the shower niche with its two shelves.

Here is a before photo showing the vanity area and weird hollow wall next to it.

After, a free standing vanity feels like a piece of furniture centered on the wall.
I painted the wall black to give it importance and highlight the white vanity.

A pocket door separates the bathroom from the bedroom.

I'm really excited about this etagere.
It adds a touch of elegance and of course, more storage.

It was backordered for months which is why I didn't share the bathroom reveal sooner.

It completes the room and I knew all along how I would style it.

I love displaying pretty little perfume bottles, candles and orchids on the vanity, so the new etagere gives me one more display opportunity.

It was really fun remodeling this room, turning it from a drab and dingy bathroom into a bright and elegant retreat.

That repositioning of the toilet and shower redesign - brilliant! We are contemplating redoing our "master" bath. This is great inspiration.

It is so much fun to see what you are doing with your new home as my cousin & her husband had considered purchasing your home when it was for sale! They love the S.M. Park area & had forwarded me the listing photos, but it would have been too much of a strain on their budget with the remodeling costs. I know you will work your magic on this home as you have already done. Your bathroom remodel is lovely! Wishing you happiness in your new "cottage"!

Your style and energy is selfless and never ceasing! I have not checked in on your blog in ages and was thrilled to find you still up and running. I have moved into the house I grew up in, my Maternal Grandparents home. They have passed on and the thought of their home going to a stranger was not an option for me. Its a humble mid-fifties ranch style home in the SF Bay Area. I hope to breathe fresh light and space into the house and with your tasteful and absolutely lovely interior and exterior aesthetics to guide and inspire, the task is less daunting. Thank you for sharing your photos and your story! Your efforts are greatly appreciated!
Kindly,
-Teri

I'm about to swoon! This is gorgeous! Dolores, you never miss anything. It looks so elegant. I'm wondering though how hard it is to keep mold and mildew off the marble, and how delicate it might be to keep up. I assume that it wouldn't like harsh chemicals. I am a scrupulous bathroom cleaner, and even I have trouble with soapscum and mildew when the bathtub is used every day. This is right up my alley! Love everything!

To answer Maria C. I squeegie the shower doors and walls nearly every day. So far, there is no mold or soap scum. We have a fan inside the shower that whisks away steam, so that helps.

Hi Libby,
I can't make any recommendations yet. So far, I use the squeegy after every shower and haven't used any chemicals yet. Still researching the safest to use.

Wow! It's gorgeous, and I do love how you set off the white vanity with that black accent wall. Saw your feature on Marty's blog. Love all your topics of interest from your profile - very much the same as what I love doing! Have a great weekend.
