As much as I love a real fire with burning wood, I also recognize the health risks of breathing smoke.
Here in California, we've had a lot of devastating fires that have created a health hazard, so not contributing to the pollution is the right thing to do. That's why I converted our 1924 wood burning fireplace to gas logs.
The process involved bringing gas to the fireplace, which meant cutting a hole in the wall.
The company that installed the gas logs arrived after the gas was installed and coated our old chimney so we wouldn't burn the house down!
I'm so happy that we did this!
Not only does it look realistic, it gives off a good amount of warmth.
Keep in mind, this is not an insert, but logs that give a realistic burning fire.
Once the logs were installed, we were free to enjoy the ambiance of a fire.

We often think about converting, here in New England some fall days you just need the fireplace on for a couple of hours to "take the chill out". Your looks beautiful , maybe time to think about it again.
I always wanted a "real" fireplace. But, my house came with 2 gas fireplaces and I soon learned to love them. They're so convenient - flip the switch when I want a fire, flip the switch when I'm done. I don't have to wait for the logs to burn down before I go out or go to bed. And I soon discovered that heating the downstairs of my house with one of the fireplaces is a fraction of the cost of using the baseboard heaters for the same time period.
Wonderful ! Congrats on this great project dear friend. We always wanted to do this, but somehow never got around to it. You have inspired me.
I'm pinning it and sending it to hubby.
Happy Easter,
Fabby
Just beautiful - this is the best of all worlds warmth, ambiance & safety!
So much more practical and less mess. Plus it looks like real wood anyway! Beautiful!
It looks great! We have had gas fireplaces for years and love them.
One of the best investments we ever made! And now there are so many choices of log styles :)
Those logs look so realistic! We have a wood burning fireplace now, and I’m so done with the work! I’m ready for gas logs.
Our new house Reno has two wood burning fireplaces that are in bad shape and we will need to convert them ... I love the way you did it and will look to it!
