My Closet Makeover

Lauren at Pure Style Home is doing a series on "organizational projects" in her home throughout 2010 and is challenging others to do the same. I was so inspired by her coat closet challenge in January, that I decided to organize my own clothes closet. I'll be honest, I hate to hang up my clothes and my closet was a mess!

This is the BEFORE picture. I am so embarrassed! It looks "like a bomb went off" - as my Mother used to say! This disaster is a result of the aftermath of the holidays, lack of time and just plain laziness! I made a New Year's resolution to organize my home in 2010 too, so Lauren's challenge was perfect timing.

It took me a couple of hours. I ended up taking out six large shopping bags of clothes to donate. I'm so proud of my closet now!

Ta-da! The AFTER photo!
Thank you Lauren for inspiring me to get organized. I promise to keep my closet this way and not let it get out of hand again. You can read about Lauren's closet challenge here.

I'm linking up to Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Metamorphosis Monday. Be sure to visit and view other before and after projects, probably much more inspiring that mine!

Oh I am so there with you, I need to do the same in just about every closet in my house. YOurs looks great and I can tell you co-ordinate your clothing very nicely. It is fun to line it all up by color,I do the same. Mine is all black and white, lime, pink, red and a touch of linen and yellow, Pretty much like my home,I see yours is all earthy and warm like your home. I guess we are pretty consistent, Kathysue

I love your closet, the cubbies and the different sized shelves to put things on! I would love to have someone come in and build out my closet! What an inspiration to have all your closets organized. I have to keep at it constantly to keep things orderly. My linen closet is used frequently and I seem to have to spend an hour on it each week or it gets out of hand! Beautiful job!

Oh, this is awe-inspiring. I'm going to use your photos as a guide when I clean "ground zero" at my house. You did a magnificent job!

Good for you! I agree that mine usually looks like your before photos. Organization in 2010 - gret idea.

Delores, my mother used to say the exact same thing about my bedroom.."looks like a bomb went off in here". Your closet looks so great, and I love that light fixture. I ALWAYS hung up my clothes until I started blogging. Now, a lot of them land on a chair that is in my closet. Blogging has not been good for my house keeping habits. Maybe your closet make over will inspire me to get off from this chair and do some organizing. laurie

Love it - and I am a tad jealous as your closet looks as big as one of our bedrooms !

Lucky you! Your closet cleans up well. Don't we all have to do this periodically. Joan @Americana By Candlelight

It looks great, congratulations, you deserve to be really proud.
And don't feel too bad about the "before".... many years ago, the house my brother was sharing was broken into, and when the police asked him what had been taken from his room, he had to confess, nothing, it always looked like that :)

Great closet. Funny about not putting the clothes on hangers! I am the opposite, can't go to bed until it's all hung up...or at least most of it! Treat yourself to some great hooks and then it will at least feel like it's all in place. Hooks are my best friend on lazy days!
