The Winter Bed

Welcome to the inner sanctum--our bedroom!

Upon entering the bedroom, it is apparent that this is a large room. Too large, in fact.
I tried cozying it up with coffee colored walls and rich fabrics.

The bed dressed for winter, wearing wool plaid, houndstooth, velvet and leopard. I chose both masculine and feminine fabrics for this room, and I designed the Eastern King velvet sleigh bed. I think it is actually bigger than our Prius in the driveway! But this room can take it and it is what was needed to fill the room.

All the linens on the bed as well as the carpeting are Ralph Lauren.
I've had fun mixing and layering the fabrics.
To me, that is what makes a bed inviting.
For spring and summer, the wool blanket and shams will be replaced with matelasse.

If we spend a third of our life in bed, don't you think we should have the highest thread count sheets, the loftiest down duvets and the best mattress we can afford?

Often times, the bedroom is the last room in the house to be decorated.
It should be the first! It is our sanctuary and we should feel pampered when we are there.

This matelasse chaise in the corner is my quiet place to curl up with a throw and read. I love how the windows look out to our redwood tree.

My side of the bed with family photos and books. Lots of books.
Notice Anna Karenina on the table.....I only have 700 pages to go!

This side of the bed never looks like this! It is usually piled with books, newspapers and fishing magazines!

There is a deck outside with another place to read in the summer or have a morning cup of coffee.

The soaking tub is another luxury I can't do without.
The chair was a flea market find that I reupholstered in this brown and cream check.
The faux bamboo cabinet is antique.

This wooden tray with reproduction barbolla mirror and of course a honey pot candle creates a pampered experience in the bath. Just add bubbles.......

Don't forget to pamper yourself with stacks of fluffy towels either!

The shower.

The bed again.
Hmmm, feeling sleepy?

I love linens and enjoy changing the look often in our bedroom. This could be an expensive hobby! However, everything either came from TJ Maxx or Marshalls. Ebay is another source for discounted duvet covers, blankets and sheets. I look for the highest thread count and rarely pay more than $40 for a set of king size sheets. Full retail is not in my vocabulary!

I'm joining The Gypsy's Corner for Three or More Tuesdays because I have three pillow shams on that bed!

I'm also linking up the The Little Red House for Mosaic Monday

Oh so cozy . When I was looking at your first few pictures I thought it looks like Ralph Lauren and then reading down further lo and behold it was. He is the master at mixing patterns love this look and your home is perfect for this. Everything you do is so rich and warm. It will be fun to see how you change it up in the future. I pretty much stick with the same old bedding for years. I am probably a bit boring to most,I am a white bedding girl. Have been for years. It is fun for me to come here and see such warm, rich colors, thankyou for sharing. Kathysue

I love your bedroom. When I first clicked on my mouth dropped open. Your bed is gorgeous. I have the same RL plaid blanket and the same shams (both sets). I don't use them now since we changed our bedroom colors. I bought all my RL on ebay, too. Best prices by far. I also noticed you have the antlers on your wall. I have them in my foyer and front sitting room. I just started collecting them last year. The first two I found at a local flea market. Then I got the others on ebay from Austria. Shipping is high, but I had to have the antlers. Love your wall color and your displays on your nightstands. Great carpet. I love your bathroom, too. I am so jealous of that tub. Love the cabinet with the towels and the rack across the tub is great. Haven't seen one like that before. Great gingham chair. Looks like the same fabric on my bench and shams in my bedroom now. Is it from Ballard's by any chance. Great, great room....Kim

absolutely gorgeous!! We should all pamper ourselves like you are doing. I'm trying to spruce up the Master and stop cluttering it up. I too love changing the linens and mixing and matching it all. Thanks for the inspiration, drooling over the chaise and patio chairs. I dream of a side patio off the master.

This post was one that was featured at the bottom of your current post. I had never seen it and am so happy that I got to see it today.

Your Winter Bed is beautiful. I'd love to see the Summer version. Is that in a seperate post? I love tht you put in your post that all of the linens are from TJMaxx, etc. Just today, at Marshall's I purchased some Ralph Lauren bedding and am thrilled. You've been a lot luckier than I at spotting his stuff. I felt like I won the lottery! LOL!

Your bedroom is so inviting. Thanks for sharing it with us.

This stunning bed is designed Ruijssenaars Janjaap and is certainly one of the more beds you can find today. Bed uses magnets to keep it floating. In order to prevent bed drifting in strong winds, the cables are connected to every corner of the bed on top. However, such an amazing feature affects the mind numbing price of $ 1,530,000.
