Imagine my surprise when I came home the other day and there was a bird in my dining room!
I had left the back door open and I guess he thought it was an invitation to explore.
He flew around the dining room trying to find a way out. The poor thing was a little confused thinking he could fly out the window. The dog was not amused though.
I chased my little intruder into the sunroom.....
.....and finally to the kitchen where he eventually found the open door and flew out.
I don't think he enjoyed his tour of our home much!
I have really grown fond of birds lately, and could see myself taking up bird watching someday!
So, since birds are some of my favorite things, I'm joining Laurie this morning at Bargain Hunting With Laurie for Favorite Things Saturday.

Delores - I think he looks quite charming sitting there on your grain sack pillow! Have a great weekend.
Years ago, on a Saturday morning when our son had arisen very early to watch cartoons, we were launched from our bedroom with the sounds of terrified screams. We raced into the family room to find our son curled up on the couch, screaming in fear. A bird had found its way down the chimney and into the room. It was flying around the room in panic. I finally was able to throw a quilt over it and gently carry it back outside to freedom. Quite an experience. Cherry Kay
Delores I love birds and we sit on our patio and watch them all the time, we get a lot of birds in our yard, they are amazing. I had this happen in my living room, front door open and in he came. He went right to the ficus tree in the corner, it took a while to get him out.My favorite little guys are the hummers and the finch, they are so sweet to watch, Happy weekend, Kathysue
Aw - poor little cutie. I'm so glad you were able to get him out of the house. A hummingbird wasn't so lucky at our house.

My middle sister would have gone into cardiac arrest on the spot ... she has a bird phobia which she has never been able to overcome. Your story is sweet and I am glad he finally flew the house/coop.
You have a sweet bird visitor. We feed wild birds and hummers and love to sit on the deck and watch them. Thanks bunches for visiting me: )

Beautiful!
Kisses from Croatia.
Delores, that is too funny and what cute photos.
Dearest Delores,
You were quite an early bird yourself to get your camera out quick! Great images and luckily the bird managed to exit again... Hope the bird didn't leave you a 'calling card'...
Yes, bird watching is great. We observe them from our bay window at breakfast and on our balcony from the French door in our bedroom. It adds to romance...
Sunny greetings from Georgia,

He is very photogenic! ;)
Be a sweetie,

Hi Delores, I have had a few of those nesting on my porch eves and I believe they are called a Phoebe. Cute name! The eat flying insects and are pretty common.
I love they way he looks in the house though, quite at home!
xo kelley
PS The best way to catch them is to get a baseball cap and plop it over them really quickly...I know this from experience,,,,: )
I love birds!
Hope you were able to get him out before he needed to take a potty break! :D
Enjoy your weekend.
Don't you just wish that you could explain that you're their friend and the exit is this way??
Delores, sometimes, this summer, when I've come, I've looked through several posts at once and comment on each. Are you notified by email about new comments? Do you get them? I just wanted to make sure. I really enjoy my visits! =]
On the side, my sister must have been in a funk, lately. I've told her about your blog - perfectly her style - let me tell you! Well, yesterday, she called me all aghast - in raptures over your blog. hee hee! I told her so!!!!
Anyway, thank you for all of your lovely work, here, and for all the things that you include us in. It's such a privilege.
Love, Katy Noelle
All I can say is EEEEKKKKkk! I am not a fan of birds - caged or otherwise - but especially one that gets lost in the house! Oh me oh my! Glad he made his way back out easily, and without any damage!!! Thanks for stopping by Color Outside the Lines. So glad you enjoyed that RL post, I'm in love with the collection this fall - not only this one but the more modern one too! Got great ideas for the bedroom from that one! Check it out on RLhome.com! I'm still at work til' 5, but my mind is reeling with what I can do at home to try to get this look for less. LOL!
Delores, only you could have a live bird to add to your beautiful decor. He looks right at home in your home! Glad you got some great pictures before you got him out of the house. Thank you for linking this to Favorite Things Sat. Have a wonderful weekend. laurie
I've had this happen a couple of times. I leave the french doors open and the next thing you know a bird wants to tour the Barn. lol
One time my niece and nephew were here and got so tickled at the bird flying around the kitchen and sitting on the beams. I don't mind as long as they quickly find their way out and don't leave anything behind, if you know what I mean.
Your visitor was really pretty!
I can't believe you got such great photos of your little friend. It was so nice of him to come and visit, but nice when friends leave too!
He looks so perfectly comfortable and at home. glad he found his way out. Ours used to fly in the fireplace!
What a little cutie! I'm happy to read that he made it out okay :)
"It is ALWAYS so wonderful to have a camera ready when you need it"!!! I LOVE your little visitor, and bird watching is an incredibly rewarding hobby. I wish I had your quail over here in Connecticut, we just have his cousin the BOBWHITE! LOVED your post...
That bird looked really cute in your house!
When a bird enters your home it is a sign ! You are receiving a message...so look out for more signs now, be attentive..You have captured the bird beautifully...she must have trusted you..

How funny... I love your pics.!! xo
Aww, and I'm amazed you got such great pictures! I would have been hiding somewhere AWAY from the bird, and letting my family help the little birdie find its way out! I'm afraid of birds!
Kat :)
What a great photo opp! And you were right on it.
I love birds and this post made me grin ear to ear! Wonderful photos!

at first glance i thought your little visitor might be a towhee, but with the lighter bill i think he is possibly an oregon junco. both have the black hood. whatever his label, your photos are beautiful. i so enjoy your blog.
what great pictures!! great job and how fun to have this visitor. I got in to birding several years ago and i'm pretty sure this is an oregon junco. pretty one. enjoying your blog!
