As Time Flies

Many clocks say on their face, Tempus Fugit, or "Time Flies." For me, the older I get, the faster time seems to fly by! I'm even more aware of the passage of time as we begin a new year today!

What better time to show the small collection of vintage and not so vintage clocks and time pieces like the one above.
This black vintage mantel clock, made by Ansonia was a flea market find, and is one of my favorite clocks.

A petite hand painted Gilbert 1807 clock sits on the bookshelf in the living room.
It has the sweetest chime!

Another flea market find, this old Sessions mantel clock is quite unusual with it's crazed finish.
I like hearing the tick tock of these clocks. It is a reminder of the passage of time, but also it is a comforting sound.

The grandfather clock in the dining room is Mr. A's pride and joy!
It is a French Morbier, also known as a Comtoise or Privincial clock.

The case is pine, with hand painted flowers which is typical of these country clocks.
But the best part is the pendulum. It depicts a fisherman and as it swings back and forth, so does the fisherman's arm as he nets his catch.

In our kitchen in the wine country is this clock, a recent find.
The face is actually a reproduction of the French Morbier clock.

This little bedside clock was a gift from my sister-in-law.

I love this tiny enameled clock in the guest room.

One of my all time favorite clocks is this one. It belongs to my friend Diana. I'm always on the lookout for one just like it. Someday....Who knows, maybe in 2011 I'll find this one at a flea market, just like some of the other clocks in my house.

And so second by second, minute by minute, hour by hour, our clocks are ticking away, reminding us of how fast time does fly by!

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

I'm joining Laurie at Bargain Hunting With Laurie for Favorite Things Saturday.

Dearest Delores,

The Provincial clock is my favorite! We have a Dutch proverb: 'Zoals 't klokje thuis tikt, tikt 't nergens...'
Translated: Such as the clock (deminutive) ticks at home, it ticks nowhere else...

That is true. We are so used to all the different sounds in our homes and the clocks, their ticking, sounds of chimes etc. are so much part of us that we MISS each aspect of it.

Never mind that time goes that fast; as long as we manage to live intensely and enjoy our days, it's worth it!

Enjoy your many TIME messengers!

Delores,
What lovely clocks in your home and the home of friends. Oddly enough, I was thinking this morning of going to our local Antique Mall. Like you, I enjoy the thrill of the hunt! TIME will tell where my next adventure leads!
Fondly,
Pat

Oh Delores, what a wonderful collection! I was originally going to tell you that my favorite was the black mantel clock ... until I saw Mr. A's pride and joy. I am absolutely coveting that beauty! I wish I could see it in action. Time is rushing by! I'm having trouble believing that it is 2011! I remember when I saw the movie 2001 A Space O., I thought I probably wouldn't even be alive when 2001 arrived!! Thanks for linking this wonderful collection to Favorite Things. I'm going back for another look at that fisherman clock and the black mantel clock. (Shoot! I do NOT need to start another collection, but you sure have me wanting to). laurie

Oh-I love your old clocks. I have a clock in just about every room...I, too, have always had that deep sense of time passing. One of the very first books that I really remember reading was A Lantern In Her Hand...about a woman named Abby Deal (if I remember correctly) and it was all about the passage of time..and I remember feeling a real connection with that book. I was probably about 10 or so. Happy New Year- xxoo Diana

I love your clocks! Thank you for sharing them. Since time has to pass anyway it sure is nice to view (and hear) it in such a lovely way! *winks* And I'm with Laurie...I know it's not nice to covet...but that morbier clock would look really good at my house....And you already have sooo many beautiful things...I'm just sayin' *winks* Vanna

What a great post Delores, and stunning pictures as usual...but get this I just picked out fabric for my bedroom down here and I think it is the same as your dining room curtains with the grandfather clock...is it waverly? I am going to browse your past posts to see I can see more of those!

Time is flying by. Only about 7 weeks until I am in San Francisco. Woohoo. I would love some suggestions as to where to stay, where to eat and of course where to shop. A visit to Carmel is in the plans.
