"If of thy mortal goods thou art bereft,
and from thy slender store
two loaves to thee alone are left,
sell one, and with the dole,
buy hyacinths to feed thy soul."
~Muslih-uddin Sadi
13th Century Persian Poet
My bulbs bloomed this February in the kitchen window.
Oh, how I love hyacinths!

The Hyacynths are just beautiful. Thank you for sharing these pics. Just what I needed to see today from the land of ice and snow ;-)

Hello Delores,
so nice to read that poem. I ever loved the blogname of Sarah's blog and now I know this sweet poem. Indeed this scent feeds the thursty soul after winter. I love Hyacinths.
Greetings, Johanna
I had some in my windows too. What a wonderful scent when you walk in the kitchen or stand by the sink. Yours are fabulous.
Your hyacinths bring a smile...they are beautiful!
They ARE lovely!!! Also---your birds nests; whoa! Do you find them? Or are they "man made?" I NEVER see real nests and so would love to. A beautiful post this beautiful Friday!!
Such a wonderful heady aroma. It amazes me every time I see them blooming right out of a container of water.
Delores, What a perfect way to describe hyacinths! I agree about "feeding the soul" and have such fond memories of them from childhood at my aunts house. I have them coming up in my garden now but I haven't bent down to drink in their luscious scent.
Love them in your urns flanked by your birds nest in cloches. I must write on my calender to remember to buy more bulbs for inside next year. Your window sill is divine. I haven't heard the poem before but it is beautiful. As always-Great Post!
Delores, you must know that this post is making me smile. I've been enjoying blooming hyacinths too. One of my favorite flowers. Wonder why? ;-)
Thank you for sharing yours and the words of Sadi's beautiful poem, obviously another favorite here. ~ Sarah
Oh- I have rolled this poem out many times over the years. It is one of my favorites. Lovely pics to go with it! Hugs- Diana
Delores -
These are indeed a family favorite. I send them occassionally to our daughter and she carries them from room to room with her, so as to enjoy the fragrance wherever she is. She especially loves to have them by her bedside at night. I always plant them by the front door, in hopes that any visitor feels the favor of spring the minute they arrive.
