It's that time again.
Summer is coming to an end and fall is in the air.
It's time to go back to school!
The first day of school always made me anxious.
Which friends would be in my class? Would I like the new teacher?
Did I pick the right outfit for the first day?
What if I missed the bus?
Would the classes be too hard?
Especially math! Oh, how I hated math!
Thankfully, those days are long gone!
As a parent, I helped pick out the right outfits, bought the school supplies and drove my nervous kids to school, telling them that it is going to be a fabulous year!
I was really excited for them!
I realized when I saw the "back to school" sign in front of the high school that this is the first fall in 30 years that I don't have a child to take to school or move in to college.
And it feels pretty good!
It also feels really weird!

Thank goodness those days are over for me as well! I loved my school days but happy they are over. Was always anxious about the first few days. Now I can just enjoy watching others go back to school :)

The first year we didn't have kids in elementary, middle, or high school was so weird for me! With our son entering his junior year of college, we are very close to being where you are...and not paying those high tuition bills sounds so lovely! Great post!

Funny I was thinking about back to school yesterday when my grown son called and jokingly asked if I wanted to take school clothes shopping? Too funny! It is a little bitter sweet not having any children to get about this time of year. I must say I miss driving them places as they seemed to talk so much more when they were trapped in the car! Thanks for the great post.
Delores, that's the same way I felt today! School started here and my baby graduated high school this past May. It felt so weird not having to get up and make sure everyone got out ok.
Right now I'm relishing having my youngest in his senior year in high school. I loved every minute of these school years, and 'weird' is a great word to describe how it must feel with no more school kids. Isn't Life a kick? Constantly pushing us into new territories....

As a grandmother, I rejoiced again, that it now my children's turn to prep and comfort and encourage those first day of school jitters. Of course I benefit from all the cute pictures of excited faces and well selected new outfits. Enjoy being on this side.
Yes, it is definitely weird! I like parts of it and I hate parts of it! I feel disoriented at times and then I feel liberated at times! Being an empty nester is weird period! But it's fun! I'm anxious about my youngest in his freshman year of college, tho. I want to know who he sits by….what homework he has, is he hungry, does he like his teachers…all of that normal stuff! So….I'm going to Auburn tomorrow! With a huge casserole in hand and lots of garlic bread! Surely I will find out something!
Wow....30 years!!!! That's a lot of back-to-school days!!!
