She Wore Green Velvet

There is something about green velvet that just makes me happy!

And green velvet sofas especially make me happy!

I can't figure out why.  Maybe it reminds me of a green meadow.
Or a freshly mowed lawn.

Whether it's celery green velvet...

Or kelly green velvet...

I am forever drawn to velvet sofas.

For years, this was my green velvet sofa in the living room, complete with bullion fringe.

Many of you have expressed your love for it, and it has been great.
But over time, I wanted an updated look.  Less grandma and more fresh and current.

Specifically, I was thinking of apple green velvet.

Today the upholsterers delivered my sofa, and she wears apple green velvet!
Yes, the fringe is gone.  Also gone is piping on the cushions and pillows, making for a cleaner, updated look.
Instead of the three formed box cushions on the back, I opted for five down cushions.

Did I mention how comfortable it is?  The three bottom cushions were replaced with just two and I upgraded the cushions for more comfort.
I have to say, this green velvet sofa makes me happy!

Just like my original green velvet sofa did over 30 years ago!
I had completely forgotten about it until now.
I bought it at a garage sale in 1979 and had it reupholstered in this olive green cut velvet fabric.
That's our oldest daughter Melissa, circa 1983,
I wonder what happened to that green velvet sofa....!

I love your upgrades Delores, especially the two cushions instead of three, all swathed in velvet, so inviting!

I am so with you on green velvet sofas! Two years ago, in my Tuscan phase, I sold my shabby chic sofa and bought a gold sofa thinking it would go with everything. Now leaning back toward my true love - English Country - I am saving my pennies to reupholster my sofa in green velvet!

This deserves a great big WOW!!!
I know you must be thrilled, as you've talked about making this change for quite awhile. You were right to pick that lovely apple green. It's perfect. It looks fresh, but more importantly, TIMELESS. I can't wait to see MORE.

Oh my gosh, I am so happy for you about this sofa! I should have known you would make it even better than it was before! I love it, great job! Twelve years ago I inherited a chair from my late mother that I had upholstered in green velvet and I've loved it dearly ever since. One of these days I'm going to have a green velvet sofa too!

Loved the old look, also love the new fresh updated look. Funny, my grandparents had a wonderful rust colored horsehair sofa from the late 30's, that has stuck with me all these years. It's always effected my choices. Love your inspiration photos!

I was about to comment much earlier today but then my shop got busy! I LOVE your green velvet post because my last purchase was a green velvet love seat to go in our family room along with our main sofa and everything else…it has become my prized possession! Go figure! It's gorgeous and the more used it gets the prettier it becomes!

She's a beauty. Love all of your gorgeous green velvet sofas. Methinks you were born in a different time and resurfaced to bring back romance. (I do love me some bullion fringe, though.)

Question...is it worth reupholstering my couch. I love the custom made couches I have, but really, I could buy new ones cheaper that reupholstering. And, how do I know a good deal.

You must go back and add a picture of Scarlet in her GREEN VELVET curtain dress. The one she work to jail to see Rhett. Now she really wore green velvet. And I want to make some of those velvet pumpkins I have seen on Pinterest lately.

My first sofa 42 years ago was an apple green with big rolled arms and tufted. I loved that sofa and can't remember what happened to it either. Isn't it strange how some things change and some don't as you go through life. My family room sofa now is an apple green? And I am getting ready to recover it in another apple green burlap looking fabric piped in black. I guess I MUST like that color but it works for me.
Your new couch is beautiful!!!!!

LOVE LOVE the new green color. I loved the old color and thought that was the best, til I saw the new color.

I have a friend who has the SAME lifelong love with green velvet. Any time something new comes in the house, it's wearing green velvet!

There used to be a shop online called Green Velvet that blew my socks off...it had a gorgeous photo of their brick and mortar store.
I love your blog!! Don't know how I've overlooked you thus far.

My mom has an olive green velvet sofa that I love, love, love. She's reupholstered it twice, barely tweaking the shade of green. So soft!
