i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart)
i am never without it
(anywhere i go you go, my dear;
and whatever is done by only me
is your doing, my darling)
i fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet)
i want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;
which grows higher than soul can hope
or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart.
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)
~e.e. cummings
This poem was what I was thinking of when I set this Valentine's table for two in the living room.
It is my favorite love poem, a sonnet almost.
I think it should be a song, it's so beautiful, don't you?

What a beautiful poem and such a beautiful table! I love those red cabbage leaf dishes.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
What a wondrously romantic table. Are the napkin rings antique?
I would love for you to link this up to my "Be My Valentine" linky party tomorrow.

such a romantic little spot to be!
Lovely romantic tablescape, Delores.
So gorgeous. So romantic and old world feeling, love the elegance of it all!
It looks so stunning!
Beautiful tablescape and poem! I love your chair covers, too.
Have you ever heard Micheal Hedge's version of this? I was singing it all the way through your post today. Hedges was a New Age musician, active during the 80s and 90s (he died too young in a car accident). He set this poem to music on one of his albums, Taproot. Mind you, he's a guitar player, not a singer. His voice is passable, but the the feeling behind it is genuine. You can hear nice long sample of it on iTunes.
What a beautiful poem. Thank you for introducing me to it.
I will look up iTunes straight away thank you Heather.
Happy valentine's Day
Truly beautiful...the poem and the table setting.
