Up On The Roof

2013 is the year to finally bite the bullet and replace the roof on our house.
I'm very excited for the chance to change the color from red to black!

The red roof has been bugging me since we bought the house 15 years ago.
Now the roof is at the end of its 27 year old life.

A black roof will be a game changer, along with new gutters that are completely rusted out.
I'm thinking of a more traditional profile for the gutters too.

Did I mention that 2013 is also the year to paint the house?
Other than a few windows here and there, it hasn't been painted in 17 years.
I think it's time.
A black roof now opens up a whole bunch of possibilities.
Like black doors and sashes on the windows, plus a darker color for the stucco.
It all begins next week.

Hopefully, it will all be done in time for the 2013 Showcase of Homes!

My home will be featured Friday, July 26th.
Stay tuned for more information!

Roof, paint and gutters! Can't wait to see all these. You have been lucky (climate?) to go so many years without redoing !
We had two layers of shingles on our old house when we had to reroof: that was quite a job, taking them all off!

It's funny, we are putting a black roof on our house this month as well. We painted the exterior last year. Gray silt by Valspar. I am so excited to be putting a new roof on this year. Next up is new shutters in black, of course. Can't wait to see how yours turns out. I love your home. It's gorgeous.

Wow - that is a tight timeline to get it all completed.
The new colours will bring so many more opportunities with foliage in your garden. It will make the current plantings pop.

i'm in Ventura and when my contractor-brother saw my brand new black roof he started providing me with the facts about heat gain, etc. i think the important thing is that your attic vents are good; your roofer can give you ideas about that if you have questions. your house is going to look great and i love the test patches of color--talked to a painter about our house yesterday...

Hi D! That is so exciting, getting a new roof is such an uplift for house. The darker roof will look stunning! It really is large surface and can totally change the look of a home. We use to have a shake roof and I loved the look, but needed a change and I am so pleased with our new roof!
Get ready for a lot of noise from above!!

You are brave to take on all of this just weeks before the Showcase. I'm eager to see the new look and the Showcase of Homes. Is the Showcase a blog feature or something there in SF?

Yay, how exciting to get a new look for your house. How long do you think all the changes will take?

All these changes you mentioned sound so exciting! It's true what you said that a simple change in paint can make a huge difference on a house's appearance. Also, I say yes to gutter replacement since you said that they were all rusty. I can't wait to see how your house would look when all of the renovations are done. Good luck!

Oh, wow! Your roof lasted for 27 years? It simply proved that you got a very efficient and durable roof back then. When you look at it, it doesn’t even look so bad. It’s just really up to you if you want to replace it. Have you started with your plan, by the way? I hope that your replacement will be as great as this.

A black roof is DEFINITELY the way to go! It will lend your home a more modern and sleek look. It's also a matter of choosing the right roofing material to go with. Did you get your remodeling done in time, like you wanted?
