Flashback Friday: The Holiday Hutch

The best thing about having a Welsh dresser or hutch is the endless styling opportunities.
I like to change ours seasonally, Christmas being my favorite time to create a holiday vignette.
Think of it as "vertical tablescaping" or "hutchscaping!"
For instance, three years ago, I used red transferware and paperwhites for my Christmas hutch vignette.

Last year, I relied on mercury glass, white flowers and pinecones for a subtle holiday look.

This year, I brought in some tartan, red majolica and a transfereware platter depicting a a snow scene.  Paperwhites again say Christmas to me.

I never have a plan, I just start playing with dishes.  This is what hutchscaping is all about.
The red majolica plates that I found while thrifting this year are the background for little roe deer antlers on one shelf.

The tartan plates frame it all.

I found the tartan metal flower pots at Orchard Supply Hardware!
The platter is Johnson Brothers, from the Historic America series, "Home for Thanksgiving."

Along the sides of the hutch, behind the doors, I used Johnson Brother's Friendly Village plates with red majolica chargers behind them.
These are classic Christmas plates, and I have yet to set a Christmas dinner table with them.

The Holiday Hutch
2012
It is taking me forever this year to get ready for the holidays.

Hence, the many "Flashback Fridays!"
Be sure to check back later for my Holiday Hutch, 2013.
That is if I get around to it!
Is anybody else lagging like me?

I think everyone's behind since we lost a week with Thanksgiving being so late this year!

I'm seeing so many beautiful decorations in blog land I thought I was the only one behind! I feel overwhelmed at the lack of time I have this holiday season. Your hutch has given me the inspiration that I need to pick up the pace.
It's perfection....

You're not alone, Delores.
I think perhaps it may be because Thanksgiving was late this year.
Always looking for an excuse. :)

I'm glad you reposted this! I love to see your hutch with each design, though I couldn't pick a favorite. I like them all so much! I love the reddish color majolica pieces too! I'm going to borrow your idea and post some of my past Christmas decor. I literally have a wreath on my front door, and an antique sled beside it. That's it so far. I don't think I've ever been so behind in putting up Christmas decorations. can't wait to see your 2013 hutch.

Definitely lagging and definitely downsizing with each passing year! Agree with Sharon, feeling overwhelmed with the lack of time. But, your dishware collection is always inspiring and I always love to see how you "mix 'n match" your lovely collections.

I always admire your beautiful mojolica plates and always think someday I'll stumble upon a set to use on the table.
Glad you shared these looks back. It's always a real treat to view photos of your home. I greatly admire your style!
Happy Holidays! ~ Sarah

Happy New Year, Delores!
I just love all of your plate combinations! Thank you for sharing your beautiful ideas!
Please tell me where I could purchase some tartan plaid plates like the ones you used in your Christmas and Easter settings,(not the red one you said you got at Target). What is the name of the maker or designer on the back of the plates, please. Thank you so much!
