The Ultimate List for 2014: #2 Drink More Water

Are you like me and have a hard time drinking enough water?
I always think I'm getting enough fluids with the amount of beverages consumed, but to just drink plain water--that's difficult.
Staying hydrated is very important and many of us walk around in a state of dehydration and not even know it.

My goal for 2014 is to drink more water, so lately I've been keeping a big carafe of water in the refrigerator that has a few lemon slices in it for flavor.

It is better than the carbonated water I love and a lot less expensive too!
Can't remember how many glasses you drank today?
Do what my mother used to do and put 8 pennies on the kitchen windowsill.
For every glass you drink, move the penny to the other side!

Does sparkling water count? I do love it so!
I'll save it for a treat when out for lunch or dinner.

Experts say that 8 glasses of water a day is needed to keep us properly hydrated.
Did you know that drinking water helps you lose weight, keeps you looking young by hydrating your face, helps build muscles and lubricates your joints?
Drinking 8 glasses of water also improves the brain's cognitive skills by 30%.
Drinking water makes us smarter!

Got Water?

I do drink a good bit of water and actually love it. I love the penny idea. Only downfall is going to the bathroom frequently.

Yep, I love Crystal Geyser, too - have loved it for years! I agree with Kim, though. I think I'd have to stay within 3 ft of a bathroom, altho I need to make an effort. My skin is SO dry now.

Hi Dolores,

YES! Great idea and it's so good with a squeeze of lemon:) I just did a post on this today that you might like. It's these simple things that really make a difference. Hope your Monday is off to a great start!

Love that you use a glass carafe! I'm so fed up with all the plastic bottles that people buy… We use a Brita filter pitcher and leave it on the counter, as I don't like really cold water. Every time I go in the kitchen (often!) I pour a 6 oz. glass that sits right next to the Brita.
But yes, one is constantly going to the loo and have to be careful not to drink much before going out!

I've found that keeping a pitcher of cold water in the fridge really helps!

Hi Dolores! I've been loving your blog. When I ran into you at TJ's some many months ago, I started reading. I can tell it's a labor of love! Regarding not liking water....that was me! Email me and I'll explain what I did to change that. Valerieteele@gmail.com

Every week the natural lime flavor sparkling mineral water is on my grocery list.

I am with you..... and your research regarding hydration is absolutely correct! I have the same resolution for 2014...... in fact I went out today and found a beautiful vintage glass pitcher to keep full on my desk and sip throughout the day. Part of the agony of drinking water is that is is tasteless. Lemon is an additive that is perfect, however, the beauty of a clear glass vintage pitcher will also add a bit of glamour to the chore........Happy New Year,....and drink up!

Have you heard of this one? Take your weight and divide by two. That's the ounces you need for your body. Also, lemon, is a good detoxifier, along with a slice of ginger. If you can do it add some cayenne pepper. Just a little.
It's yummy!
Bottoms up,
Sharon

Oh yes, one other thing...
In warmer weather freeze ice cubes out of lemon juice. As they melt into your water adding additional flavor. A branch of spearmint is very refreshing too!

I love to drink water. I find that I drink more when there is a dispenser on the refrigerator. So easy to refill and we have 2 water filters hooked on the water line, so it's clean. I'm with Kim though, the more you drink the more you use the bathroom.
