Sprucing up the Entry

Welcome to our home!

The entry is the first impression to your home, revealing much about who lives there and what lies beyond the front door. I have always believed it should be a little dramatic!

We never use the front door! We are a back door family, so sometimes this whole area gets neglected. I might forget to water the topiaries or plant flowers. So, I decided to pay attention to it and give it a little "facelift."

The front door was recently given a fresh coat of black paint.
A seagrass rug replaced the patterned black wool one.
The wreath is a new addition from Vintage Home Lifestyle in Healdsburg.

This vintage wicker settee was a recent find from the Alameda Antique Faire. I had it upholstered with an old European feed sack. The various pillows are still a work in progress.

The walls are an apple green, one of my favorite colors.

The stairs are carpeted with a wool leopard runner.
Vintage oil paintings of roses line the walls.

There is an old hall tree on the landing.

The pair of pine cone urns from Wisteria flanking either side of the front door are now planted with a fresh flowering plant. (We'll see how long that lasts!)

Outside, these old black urns are original to the house. I recently planted them for spring to spruce up the entry.

Inside the front door with a full view of the entry. The dining room is on the left, the living room on the right.

The entry has always been an open space, without furniture as there are too many doors. I once tried a big round table in the middle, but it seemed like it was always in the way. Keeping it staged with fresh floral arrangements wasn't practical either. The wicker settee actually is the first piece of furniture to fit and it really warms up the space.

Front view of our house (circa 1906) taken in the Fall.

I'm linking up to Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Metamorphosis Monday. Be sure to visit her and see other projects by fellow bloggers.
I'm also joining Mary at Little Red House for Mosaic Monday! Come have a look at all the creative mosaics.

I. Love. Your. Entry! What a wonderful front entrance you have, too. Love the wreath ~ I wish I had room between our full view storm door and the main door for a wreath, but I've had to get creative with items that have less depth {so the door closes and my items don't get crushed}.

Oh that apple green is fantastic! Love your wreath to. Where did you find the stair runners, I need some of those for my stairs that are all wood.....

Oh, my! What a wondrously beautiful home you have! Your entry is just stunning! Your wall color is so pretty! I have green in my home too, but it's not this pretty shade! I may need to get out my paintbrush.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

The stair runner was custom made. It is actually wall to wall carpet that was cut in my driveway in the proper widths. Then it was taken to the work room where the edges were surged, brought back and installed. Regular runners wouldn't work because the stairs have three turns and landings....

I just love your entry with that settee in it. What great woodwork in your house and the outside is just stunning. I love that brick walkway lined with the bushes.

I just love the apple green paint and everything else about your entry. I'm glad to see the paint color...I have been thinking of painting our new kitchen a very similar color. Now that I see it on walls instead of in my head I am very inspired. Do you happen to remember who makes it?

We are at our lake place, for a few days. You've inspired me to spruce up our tiny entry, here. Can't wait to get home and springify the entry there, too.

Have a wonderful week.

Our home is about ten years newer than yours and I am getting ready to redo our foyer. I love green and have used it in numerous places in this old house of ours but I am thinking of more of a neutral for the foyer. I will be posting about this later would it be okay if I used an image of your foyer in one of my own house posts?

I love every single, gorgeous detail about your porch and entry!!! Lovin' the vintage wicker settee and it's wonderful pillows.
A center table with fresh flowers is always great, but you're right, this is much more practical and actually much more inviting and relaxing.
I want to go to the other rooms now
