Meet the Sub Zero Pro 48. Isn't she a beauty? I've been obsessed with this refrigerator for a long time, ever since I saw a glass doored Traulsen in House Beautiful years ago. I realize that most people wouldn't want a glass doored refrigerator, but I think it would force me to keep my refrigerator organized and full of healthy food.
I realize this is a "big ticket item." Kind of like buying a car! A few years ago, I had the chance to buy this from a dealer off the showroom floor for $10,000! There was no way! But, now it retails for $15,000!
This refrigerator also comes with a single door. Although this wouldn't work for me as I already have a Sub Zero 48 inch refrigerator, circa 1990.
I am seriously considering hiring a "hitman" to take this refrigerator out! We have replaced the compressor twice and the inside is deteriorating.
I actually like the single door better than the double door. How incredible is this!?
Another image of the single door Sub Zero.
This is a Traulsen, which is what Sub Zero was inspired by when they created the Pro 48 series.
This is a commercial refrigerator, adapted for residential use.
The same refrigerator in it's environment.
This is a True T-49G-4 refrigerator. Although it is also a commercial refrigerator, it has been adapted for domestic use with a remote condenser to lessen the sound.
This just makes my heart go pitter patter!
This Sub Zero kitchen is from their website. Don't you love how it looks?
I realize it won't be anytime soon that I get a glass doored refrigerator, but hey, I can dream--can't I?
What are your thoughts about a glass doored refrigerator? Would you want one?

I think these fridge's are so cool! I love the show brothers and sisters and there is a glass front fridge on the show and I always think it is so cool! They have a blue light in it. I would love to see one in real life! I do not keep my fridge clean enough to look inside it all of the time! haha! I have my eye on a pink fridge. But... is it worth 4,000. Ugh!
All I keep thinking... IS IT WORTH IT? I think that it is very chic and ultra sophicated. But the upkeep would drive me crazy!
I could put my son through his second year of seminary on that!
It's so funny you posted this tonight, my husband and I were just looking at a #3,000.00 frig today and I was lamenting that we will soon need another one and I just don't want to spend that kind of money on a frig. I would rather buy a chair... or a marvelous piece of jewerly, or go on a cruise, or buy a new double oven/convection oven. It's all in what makes us giddy, isn't it?
I have an idea, why not put the picture of the Sub Zero on your current refrigerator!
I guess the point really is, we all have things that make us weak in the knees that we would love to have but are extravagances.
Good "food for thought".
Yvonne
If I could afford it I would do it but only as a second fridge. The "show" fridge with the lovely display of chocolate mousse in lovely tall glasses. The fresh produce and the chilling beverages.
The ugly bowl of leftovers would be in the real fridge. Lol.
They are very cool refrigerators, but for someone very organized. This refrig would look great in my sisters all white kitchen. When you open the door to her refrigerator everything is neat and organized and all lined up. She keeps everything in all matching square containers - also in her freezer. It would look fantastic in your kitchen, too!
I couldn't handle it!!! I would have to be on fridge patrol 24/7 straightening up after the family. AND they would put things NOT IT THEIR PLACE on purpose just to watch me perform... I agree with Lori on having one only as a "SHOW" fridge for the goodie displays. Wouldn't that be WONDERFUL!!!
Oh no, not for me, I am this compulsive Obsessive cleaner, but don't look in a cupboard or closet or a frig! I looks so cool, but I know it would drive me crazy!
Carol
One more thing to straighten up before company drops by....no thanks. And the price is ridiculous. It is just another "look what I can afford" item.
A fridge that works all the time would do me!!!!!
I LOVE it and would quite happily have one in my home. I don't think they have to be organised just clean.
I have a thing for professional fridges and especially stoves!
I love the look, but not the price. Twenty years ago I spent $2400 for a fridge that finally gave out just a few months ago. The replacement one cost less than $1000 and it looks just fine, as does my bank account. I've become much more frugal in my old age, lol.
I love them and it would work great in your home, in my humble space...not so much.
In the right location, one would be fabulous. I used to want one, but it would not look at home in my kitchen. I certainly understand weighing the wants and needs, even when rice won't have to be eaten for the next year to purchase! As in all things, if it's something affordable and will enjoy - go for it. Then justify by saying "it's only pennies a day!" In this case, over a ten year period it would be $4 a day, but hey.. Who's counting!?
Love today's comments....so funny!!!
My sister had a glass double door fridge when she lived in Florida in 1992. She loved it! Her nod to design was that she covered leftovers with green (her favorite color) saran wrap. (does colored saran wrap exist anymore?)She cried when they moved and she had to leave it! Go for it Delores....it's only money! (kidding!!!!) xo Jenny
You are a very blessed woman. I totally love your kitchen from top to bottom to refrigerator door!
Terrible idea! I can't believe anyone would want to look into their fridge all the time.... But I also think glass doors on cabinets are a crazy idea too.
And as to the price: well, I have better things to spend my money on. Sorry, I just don't get it!
Oh Delores I think that would be totally cool in your kitchen. You are always entertaining and I can just see it lined up with wonderful drinks and fresh veggies from you garden!! You could really do some great Frigescaping like I wrote about on my post. Buy cool containers and have it all decorated up!!! I vote YES but I am not paying for it. Tell Mr. V that we all think it is a good idea,he he. Happy Monday sweet friend,Kathysue
I think it's fantastic for all the reasons you mentioned, especially when placed off to the side. And, the single door reminds me of a great dutch door.
I'm also a big fan of glass front kitchen cabintes too!
I'm with Kathysue! I could jut see that beauty in your kitchen! It would be gorgeous! Of course I can see it mine too;)! I have a friend that has them in her kitchen and they are like having another place to display things...as well as being functional. Hers always looks so pretty filled with beautiful bottles, bowls of fruit and veggies and all of natures's bounty! Of course you must have glass milk bottles...if everyone can see;)! Ooooohhhh now I really want one!
OOOohhh please get one;)!
Enjoy!
Cathy
I'm just dreaming ladies! Maybe in another house, someday....! For now, I'll just tape a photo on my fridge like Yvonne at Stone Gable suggested. haha
I wouldn't get a glass door one probably because there is no way it would stay neat. Surely don't open the one I have now. I just want this one to break so I can get a new one where the ice on the door works. That quit years ago. I like the new french door style. That one you want is nice though and you have a super nice one now.
Oh man we are kindred spirits. I have wanted a glass door refrigerator since I first saw one on the TV show "My Sister Sam". Remember that show with Pam Dawber? It was in the background with soft blue light behind the glass. I knew the minute I saw it I would someday have one.
Sad to say I am still waiting. I'm hoping to have it by the end of the year. Although I have always wanted a Traulsen, I have found a much more affordable one by Frigidare (who is owned by Electrolux) and it is really nice. Commercial rated with a more residential compressor. I am going for the stand alone glass door refrigerator and the separate solid door freezer.
I know a glass door would make some people crazy. For me it would be like looking a beautiful picture every time I walk into the kitchen.
Beautiful! BUT, not sure I would always want the contents of my fridge on display.... every time I pass through the kitchen I would be looking at food and it would make dieting difficult.

I like the glass fronts. With all of the new kitchen design using open concept shelving etc. why not the fridge too.?
I know how you can get rid of your old sub z too Delores. Just hire any repairman out of the yellow pages and have him take a look at it. Chances are he will tell you it need a new condenser of some other $1000 dollar gadget that needs repairing. Tell your husband and....the new fridge will be on it's way! sneeky!
xo kelley
I'll have what you're having ... can you please put a rush on it??
perty perty please
If I could afford it and justify the purchase, I would order one in a heartbeat. I know I probably sound nutso, but I like to have everything in my frig neat and lined up and organized. Eggs and fruit in bowls, pretty pitchers of beverages. We take such time to make our tabletops and china cabinets and open shelves prettiful, why not the frig that we're in and out of a gazillion times of day, right?! LOL
Maybe someday they'll fit my budget and if the timing's right, I can be the proud owner of a glass-front frig. Thanks for sharing the inspiration.
A few times I have thought, with joy, that our refrigerator was going to die!! Unfortunately.....
I've noticed that when the motor stops, everyone in the house sighs with relief. Well, one thing at a time. I, now, have a new stone wall and lovely dirt for a garden - yippee!
Love, Katy Noelle
Okay...wait a minute...this is from the same woman who told me herself she doesn't cook, right??? I think that Traulsen looks like the back wall at a 7-11 store!! LOL JK
I doubt that I could keep it neat enough for company to see inside so it would just be one more spot for me to have to straighten & wipe down before guests arrive. Its pretty but its not for me.
If YOU love it, then go for it!! Life is very short, ya' know. We just watched the movie "P.S. I love you" last night & it reinforced you should live your own life & make yourself happy. Its only money & if you can afford it, then do it.
(please don't tell your DH that I said all that..he'll hate me)
;-P
jokingly yours,
Rett
Before I even got to your question, I emailed this to my husband. Mind you this fridge would take up 1/2 our kitchen, but that's not the point right?
I would have a glass front fridge even if it wasn't organized. I have glass front cabinets and they're not perfectly organized either and they still look pretty trust me. But for that kind of dough it better come with a serious warranty huh;-)
Cheers!
J.
I love the look - but I could not live with it - lol - too anal for that !!! I would end up obsessing over the arrangement and make myself crazy !
thanks for sharing,

Hi Delores,
I wanted a glass door fridge when we remodeled, but was told by the guys who sold us the Subzero that we couldn't get one because they weren't available for use in CA. due to high consumption of power etc. What? Now I realize that particular store didn't sell them and didn't want us to shop elsewhere. I would have loved to get one, but I like the subzero too. My husband picked it out, at the time it was like buying a small car!
Love the picture of the white kitchen with the wrap around windows. Very pretty!

Oh, one more thing I just thought of. Our friends have a glass front drink fridge under their counter at one end of the kitchen. It holds all their bottled drinks, has a glass door and soft lighting. It looks really cool and it's easier to organize bottles, and it costs much less than a full sized fridge. How about that for a compromise? They fit pretty much anywhere a regular cabinet goes. I'm thinking about one for the family room wet bar area...
xo

I loved the look of this fridge, but am too painfully aware that I cannot be tidy enough to justify having a fridge like this! I need things behind closed doors.
I just stumbled upon your blog today and... I feel like an addict! I can't get enough. Thank goodness you have two fabulous houses to talk about... gives me soo much to read about! Just fabulous! Your Sonoma house really speaks to me... I just adore wine country. thanks for sharing.
I had to showcase your beautiful kitchen to my readers. I love every square inch of it!
I love this post...I am going to bookmark it.
Commercial refrigeration is very useful for the owners of big restaurants, business or a departmental store for providing right refrigeration services to their shops. The method of choosing a commercial refrigerator is different from choosing a residential refrigerator. Still your ideas were helpful thanks.

Commercial Refrigeration in Huntington Beach
Im the same way. My fridge is organized and labels out. I just bought one of these and very excited.
I so glad I just bought this fridge. All my items in the fridge are organized and lable out. Will make my stainless stell white tile commercial kitchen look fantastic for my friends.
Delores, I've been drooling over these, too. I'm disappointed that I keep reading reviews online where folks are saying that they break down or need repairs when they aren't even that old. I had a Kenmore side by side...bought one of the first ones they ever made and that thing last for 20 years with zero repairs. It was still working when I replaced it. When it was around 11-12 years old, I would get compliments from neighbors, they thought it was brand new. It held up beautifully. I finally replaced it when I renovated the kitchen because it was almond colored and I needed white. The KitchenAid counter-depth refrigerator that I bought (and paid a fortune for because it was counter depth) had issues with the icemaker within a year. The repair man told me they see that all the time with newer refrigerators. I would be so ticked it I paid $10-15,000 for a refrigerator and had problems with it. I guess that means I can't afford it if I have to worry about repairs, huh? :) Did you every buy one?
