If The Lampshade Fits

I'm always on the hunt for cool lampshades like this one. I found it at an antique show. It is handmade and one of a kind.

This lampshade is made from a vintage grain sack. It was made by the same artisan as the one above.

I found this lamp and shade at a little boutique in Healdsburg. I've since put this shade on a large vintage alabaster lamp. They seem to compliment each other better.

My latest find at the flea market. Couldn't resist this one. It also casts a wonderful glow when the light is on. I put an amber bulb in this lamp, which makes it even more romantic.

This beautiful linen shade was a resale shop find! You just never know where you might find a treasure.

I found this treasure on Ebay! It is enormous and hangs over the kitchen island.
You can read about how we installed it here.

This handmade toile shade is on a floor lamp in the living room. Talk about romantic glow!

A fun leopard shade. There are four little paper shades on my sconces over the fireplace, adding just a touch of whimsy to the serious crystal fixtures.

This black shade is the only shade that works on this vintage one of a kind tramp art lamp. I have tried other shades, but black seems to compliment the lamp the best.

One of my favorite shades on my dining room hutch was a real bargain. A Target find, believe it or not!

Which brings me to my newest and most expensive "lampshade," costing me well over $100, thank you Dr. Sutter!
I think it is just a little too unusual and quirky for my taste, but proving that if the lampshade fits, then wear it!

Love all the lamp shades, the textures are great! The linen lamp shade may be my favorite!

Poor pooch, must have a boo boo! I had a collar for my parakeet once. It was easy to make but terrible to get on the bird! I think the smaller they are, the harder they fight! lol!

Hope you are having a great week!

What a fun post! Poor puppy! I love all of the lampshades, but that first one is fabulous. I would love to see a tutorial on how to cover the sectioned lamp shades. You must just glue it at the wire dividers? If you get a chance to write me back i would love to know if that first burlap one has a heat retardant white backing on the inside. I have a lamp i would like to try, but I don't want to set the house on fire if it needs backing. Thank You so much.

Love the lampshades. The first one is probably my favorite-although I wouldn't turn any of them down.

Loving the lampshade on poochy! Just think-all that expense for a shade that will never see the light of day once he's done with it! lol

Better these examples than one on your head {or someone you know} from a New Years Eve picture! ; ) I love those first shades you found ~ just gorgeous. I think I have the same toile fabric that is on your shade that I made a table runner out of for my dining room table! It is little things like lampshades {or pillows} that I think can make such a difference in a room ~ and they don't cost a lot!

Ooooo Delores I love the first (one of a kind) handmade lampshade! So frenchy cute!! I've been thinking about doing a pillow something like that...

Btw, I can't believe your vet charged you over a hundred bucks for your doggies protective collar (I mean lamp shade). You could found one for a lot less at the pet store...

Hugs, Sherri:)

Dearest Delores,

Those are quite treasures; all of them. The leopard sconces are special too! In Europe sconces are used a lot more than here in the USA.
Love the amber light bulb, creating indeed that 'romantic yellowish' light! Sorry for your canine... we had one of our felines Sacha, having to wear one. At first she walked backwards and finally she climbed up a tree; wearing her lampshade... Poor critters!

Greetings from Georgia,

Delores, I love all of your shades! They are great....

When our dog Millie has to wear her lamp shade we call it "the cone of silence" because she won't even make a peep/whimper/bark as long as it's on.

Poor Puppy, hope he gets to take his shade off soon.

When our doggie had to have his shade I let the grands put stickers all over it. So it was well deocrated. Hope your baby is healed soon.

Girl, I have such a weakness for beautiful lamps and shades. I would love to get my hands on the first one. It stole my heart. Poor pooch... I remember when Scooter had to wear that kind of lampshade after her eye surgery.. I hope your little baby is going to be ok.. hugs ~lynne~

I have a lamp just like your last one. Mine also has an adorable little face poking through it. Actually I was annoyed that they talked my hubby into paying 15.00 for one because she didn't even bother with her foot in a bandage and we had to take it off so she could go up and down the stairs.
BTW my Grand-niece completed 35km. the first day and 25km the second day for the Walk to End Women's Cancers. Her feet were so blistered and swollen she couldn't put shoes on to go to work on the Monday and the little card she sent me today said she can't wait to do it again next year.

Poor Dexter! That is a funny photo. I did not expect that at the end of your post. I love all of your lamp shades. You are the one who introduced me to the grain sack shades and I got that fabulous ruffled one at the antique fair. I adore it! Thank you for putting me in touch with the artist.

Oh, Delores, that's so funny - and sad (poor puppers)! I have a fresh appreciation for lamps. The parsonage had overhead lamps in every room - this house only has 3. I had table and floor lamps anyway but we were sitting in the dark for a while!

Now, when I showed people my candle drawer, I got teased about having a candle addiction. We NEED lights so, can we get away with it???

You have such beautiful style! Thanks for sharing - it's fun to see!

I can't wait to see your new blog. Just let me know and I'll be there with bells on! Aaaaand, congratulations on half a thousand followers! WOW!!! =D

Love, katy

Awwww, I hope Dexter is all healed & doesn't have to be embarrassed by wearing that lampshade anymore! He didn't look like he was enjoying being the life of the party. LOL

I'm head over heals in love with that vintage grain sack shade in your 1st photo! Its beautiful!!

Those kitchen inspiration photos were gorgeous, as well. I would LOVE to get a new stove just like the one with red knobs!! I HATE my black glass cooktop!!!!!!!(I foolishly picked it, too)

I need to go investigate this "new blog" that's coming up for you. :-)

fondly,
Rett

p.s. I agree, 70 is waaaay too young. Your Dad should have had another 20 years. :-(

Oh Delores, these lamp shades are all wonderful! You make me want to run out and look for all new lamp shades! You have some really unique shades. When my dogs have had to wear one of those "lamp shades", I have had such a hard time trying to not laugh at them while they are running into things with that thing attached to them; or trying to get comfortable to sleep! I'm sooo bad. laurie

Delores, I'm obviously behind in viewing your posts. So I'm working backward this evening and having a terrific time. I, too, love handmade lamp shades. One of my favorite ones is one I found in the Nice, FR antique market. It is made from vintage linens with a wonderful monogram. Love the idea of the grain sack shades.

Did I read that you found one in Round Top? Do you come to the Round Top Antique Shows? I usually attend both spring and fall shows. I've been going since Emma Lee started with just one venue and it was the only show at that time. Now it's miles and miles and towns and towns. LOL

Hi, I followed up on this post from your post in 2012...so many just great lamps & shades. All so fun and unique. Any advice on how to fit the shade to the lamp? I purchased a debonair gentlemen fox lamp but there's no shade. The shade would sit on a very tall post that curves above the standing fox.
