The Family Room Reveal: New Sofa and Loveseat

The new family room sofa and loveseat finally arrived! Maybe now my family will stop complaining about not having enough places to sit in here!

It was such a big decision: a sectional or a sofa and loveseat. My family pushed hard for a sectional, but I just couldn't do it!

As you can see, I've wrapped a paisley throw on the sofa seat, to protect it from the dog and number 2 son, home for the summer from college.

It's is a new look, with the neutral linen...

"before"
...instead of the strong colors I had in here before.
The red sofa found a new home in the sunroom.

Here is the room before replacing the rug with a seagrass rug.

The new seagrass rug. Still experimenting with decorative pillows and throws!

Last night, the Kilim rug I found on Ebay arrived. I'm not sure about the colors, but I do like the layered, tribal look.

The family room this morning, after playing around with more pillows.

Maybe an animal hide rug would be better? Whatever I decide, I'm enjoying the process of updating the family room. My family is very happy with the arrangement too!

Great update Delores! Where is your wicker trunk from? I'm on the hunt for a wicker trunk.

Have a great weekend!

Every photo ~ just beautiful. I love the feel of your home. I also think it might be nice to do an animal print area rug. Is leaving it without an area rug at all an option? The photo without is stunning!

Lovely furniture choice. I have high-arm sofas and loveseats in my home too - so comfy cozy!! Love the sisal rug. Oh, and I love your narrow little sofa table - great piece!

Delores, I admire you for choosing a light neutral fabric for your family room. I could never do that because I'd be the first one to spill a cup of coffee on it. :)
I must admit, however, your family room looks fabulous. I do love the color you've added with the Kilim and pillows.
Hope you have a great weekend,
Babs

The new furniture is awesome! I love the seagrass and kilim rug layered, one of my favorite decorating styles is British Colonial and your room does that for me. And it doesn't go over the top. Thanks for sharing

Hi D, I love, love the sofas they look like they were made for your home. I really love the kilim on top of the seagrass. It look so warm and cozy. Maybe save it for winter and just use the seagrass for a summer look!! We both have been playing with pillows this weekend. I still don't have the perfect mix either!!! Rugs and pillows and lamps, OH MY!!! The red lamps look amazing!! Kathysue

I think it looks great in all variations! ;) Love the seagrass rug and the trunk/coffee table. I think you made the right choice not going with a sectional.

Your new furniture is beautiful. It really looks nice in your pretty home. I feel the same about sectionals..I opted for two full sofas.
Enjoy your pretties.

Love the tribal rug in there. Adds so many colors, but the cowhide would be great too. I gave up our sectional this year, we do miss it and it's taking some adjusting, but I like, no strike that, love the openess of a couch and chairs. Your room is lovely with the new couch and loveseat.

Love the linen of the sofa. I definitely like the layered look with the sea grass and the kilim rugs. The whole look is just beautiful!

I love this layered look...the seagrass rug by itself was sort of dead. Is a hide rug practical to take care of/clean? I love the color the new tribal rug brought in and all your pillows...my husband would be chucking them off to the side though!

I really like the new sofas! I love that they are so neutral and you can change the look just with pillows! I did that too: bought a cream colored sofa (sectional, long story) and can change the look for the seasons or my MOOD:):):). I love the 2 rugs too. You ahve beautiful taste, Delores. XO, Pinky

This is my first visit to your blog and I completely enjoyed it! I love your family room makeover. The linen sofa and love
seat are perfect. I have a hard time choosing rugs too, it was fun to see your different choices!

Thanks for showing the process. I like the new rug. And I especially like it layered on the seagrass. I would never thought of the combination. But the texture and pattern compliment each other

Delores, Can you tell me where you purchased the seagrass rug? I ordered one from Restoration Hardware and it was green when it came from being freshly woven and took 6 months to dry out to a beige color. There are now areas of it that are "puffing" up off the floor for no reason. Is yours soft on your feet or rough? I want to purchase another one for the dining room but am afraid to order again from RH. Your new upholstered pieces look very nice. Thanks, Summer

Delores I love your new linen sofa and loveseat, and I see your pup has settled in already! I also love the layered rugs! An animal print would also be nice, so I can't wait to see which look you settle on!

I love the new sofa - I have been loving nail head trim lately so it struck a cord with me! I love all the combos - lots of fun versions...

Love the solid upholstery and Kilim and prefer it to a hide. The last photos of added pillows pull color from rug and it provides the punch needed, thinketh me : ) Great combination!
