Memorial Day Moveable Feast

On Sunday, I packed the picnic basket with all kinds of goodies. We were going to find a nice spot on the Russian River and have a leisurely lunch. After all, my melmac patriotic plates were dying to make their debut!

After driving up and down the river for over an hour, it occurred to us that there wasn't any river access, and we were getting very hungry and irritable!
So we went back home and set up our moveable feast right on the coffee table in the pool house.

Great idea! And, more comfortable too. This wasn't just a photo opportunity...

...it was also lunch!

Everything was delicious! All from Big John's Market in Healdsburg.
Three kinds of salads, two different sandwich wraps...

...and champagne to toast!

I'm still bound and determined to photograph a picnic by the river someday.
However, it was awfully nice to picnic at home on the new indoor/outdoor rug from Pottery Barn!

We set it up the day before in the rain. I think Dexter really likes the new rug!

I'm joining Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday.
On Friday, I'll join Designs by Gollum for Foodie Friday.

Sorry you didn't find a nice cozy spot along the banks of the river.. but your backyard is a retreat in itself. Love the plates!! Especially on the burlap-y placemats. and the floral napkins.. Perfection. Lunch looked pretty good too. That rug is perfect underfoot! A great find indeed.

Clicquot and sandwiches, good no matter where you enjoy them! Yum! I'd like to see where you keep all your dishes. When I was younger I worked at Pottery Barn, in the tabletop dept. Setting a table was my "thing". I used to want a room, just for all my dishes. Do you have a dish room?

Dexter says: Yeah, I like the rug, but what I really like is the distance between the coffee table and the chairs . . . C'mon, drop something.

The rug looks wonderful, is it really indoor/outdoor? I'll have to check on them.

I had to laugh about your moveable feast - still, you had an outing, and the perfect picnic without crowds, can't be bad!

Love the rug--I'm going over to Pottery Barn now to check them out. I need something like that for my screen porch. Your lunch looked perfectly delicious, too.

Your lunch looks lovely! It rained here Sunday, so even though we are a block from the Bay in Southampton, we ate indoors too. Saturday, now that was different.
Maybe you can google to see if there is a park along the river for public access?

Oh you have inspired me to pack a picnic lunch for my sweet son and myself this afternoon.

I have sunflowers on my blog too today. :)

Delores, too bad you couldn't find a spot on the river. I know you would have created a lovely riverside vignette. But honestly, with the view at Asti, I truly can't imagine anything more beautiful. The food looks delicious! ~ Sarah
