My Cloche Collection

I started collecting glass cloches over five years ago. I found my first one on Ebay and it was my favorite thing. It was huge like the one above, with an etched fleur de lis on the side. I set it on the round porcelain butter dish on my center island.

One day I heard it shatter and found it in a million pieces. My son's friend had tapped it to see if it would make a sound! No problem, I'll just find another.

I found this little one with etching, but finding a glass dome with a fleur de lis seemed impossible. Not even on Ebay.

I accumulated many glass domes over the years like the little one above.

But also expanded my collection to other materials, like this wicker one.

And this rustic pottery one. How cute is this? My friend Maureen gave it to me for my birthday!

I love this chicken wire cloche and can't wait to incorporate it into an outside tablescape.

One of my favorite vignettes with a glass cloche.

Eventually, my friend Maureen found this medium size cloche with an etched fleur de lis!
I was so happy! I put it on my kitchen island over a cake. 24 hours later is was cracked!

My son set it down on the cake knife and cracked it. I give up! At least it didn't shatter! It sits here with some of my many cloches. I keep my found bird's nests under them.

Because these cloches are some of my favorite things, I'm linking up to my friend Laurie at Bargain Hunting With Laurie for Favorite Things Saturday. Be sure to visit!

On July 16th, Marty is having another cloche party at A Stroll Thru Life! I can't wait to join her! Thanks Mary for hosting!

Those are lovely, and I didn't see the crack until you mentioned it. Have you ever tried etching glass yourself? I'm told it's not very hard, and you could do the fleur de lis on a sturdy one!! :D

thanks for sharing!

My goodness, I think I would keep my son and his friends away from the cloches. I love the pottery one your friend gave you. Haven't seen one of those before. Love the fleur de lis one, too cracks and all. Have a great weekend.

You have a wonderful collection of cloches, I'm jealous, because I have just begun to collect them and am finding them hard to find! Your home looks so nice! You must love living in the wine country, I love it there. My niece lives in Napa and is head marketer for Trinitas Winery. It's so relaxing there! Thanks for sharing, Marcia

Very lovely cloches. I have gotten very lucky in my cloche hunting at the local Goodwill. I came away with a huge cloche one day for $4.99, serious, I kept looking over my shoulder in the parking lot like I was a thief!

You know... every time glass shatters in this house it's the guy that has done it. They are just not good around glass for some reason.

You have some pretty ones! Probably need to tell Son and friends to not touch glass in your home! :-D Seriously - Sorry it happened. :(
Enjoy your weekend.

Yes, etch it yourself. Easy peasy. Then put an electric fence around it to keep you know who away from it.
I love the look of the birds nest in the cloche.

Delores, you have not had very good luck with those fleur de lis cloches. However, I couldn't even see the crack in this one. I see that some are suggesting that you etch one yourself, which is what I was thinking while I was reading the post. That huge wire cloche is awesome, and I love that pottery cloche. Both of those are so unique and both are absolutely stunning. Thank you so much for linking your wonderful collection to Favorite Things Sat. (Hey! You were way ahead of us bloggers in this collection - why am I not surprised?) laurie

I have only started collecting cloches this past year..I had seen Martha Stewart's garden cloche's and just never thought about using them indoors...now I just love them and have started my own collection. Your collection is beautiful...I really like the wire cloche and could just invision how pretty it would be in a vignette in your garden.

Delores you have such a wonderful array of Cloches I think my favorite is the rustic one. Even though you can't see through it , it is so interesting to me with its texture and patina and the color of glaze is wonderful, Can you tell I love it? Have a wonderful day today celebrating the Dads in your life, hugs Kathysue

Hi Delores! I'm also a cloche afficianado, although I don't have as many as you do {YET!!} I bought that same wire cloche and rusty base from Joy {Savvy City Farmer} at the Na-da Farm sale last month! It is sitting on my island and gives great importance to things like lemons, or votive candles or other not-so important stuff. For some reason, things just look better under glass {or chicken wire}! Thanks for sharing your beautiful collection with us : )

What a fantastic collection.

I have a few myself, but none so large and diverse as yours. Now you have my imagination going.

I would love to have one of those big baby's hanging around. Alas with two small children about...it may be a few years yet before I'm tempted to tempt fate.

Sigh, sometimes it's difficult to have pretties with children (and men) around. I seem to break the most though, go figure ! :))

Everyone of your cloches are stunning and you have created such fabulous vignettes. I am so thrilled you joined the party. Great inspiration and eye candy. Thanks. Hugs, Marty

You have such a nice collection of cloches to decorate with. I may have to etch a design on one of mine. Never thought of doing that before. Thanks for sharing your pretties.

So sad about the break and the crack, but what can you do. I think you have a great collection. I love them all, but the wire steals my heart, esp when there are bird nests involved. What beauty, Char

Yellow Rose Arbor said...

What a marvelous collection of cloches! Too bad about the cracks. Could you cut a fleur de lis design and put it on a cloche, then spray some of that matte spray paint (forgotten the name of it) to make another one? Or is the fleur de lis doomed at your house!

A lovely group, Delores. I don't have any cloches because I don't really have a place for any. I did see one at Neiman Marcus recently that was pottery. It was really heavy though, so don't think it would be very practicle. ~ Sarah
