A Pumpkin Windowbox

Our local grocery store has such lovely and interesting pumpkins for sale. So of course, I went a little crazy buying all the varieties and sizes to decorate our home for fall.
Inspired by the pumpkin window box in the previous post, I attempted my own version with all the new pumpkins I bought.

The window box is by our back porch, under the kitchen window. Ivy geraniums are already growing there, so I just tucked little gourds and pumpkins among the vines.

Then I added fall leaves, bird's nests and a couple of candles for good measure!

Not exactly like my inspiration photo. Right?

Hey, I tried!

I'll leave it all there for a few days, but probably will end up just filling in with new plants for fall color. The pumpkins will find a better home elsewhere.

Like the fireplace mantle!

I did plant new ivy topiaries for the urns though, and found a nice variety of heirloom pumpkins to display on the porch.
Enough for today....Will resume tomorrow!

I'm joining Laurie at Bargain Hunting with Laurie for Favorite Things Saturday!

I'm also linking up to Southern in my Heart for Inspiration Friday and Color Outside the Lines for Vignette Friday. Better late than never....!

After viewing the window box picture yesterday I headed out and bought the pumpkins and etc.
Going to put it together today! But, I have the same problems, just hate to pull up those last blooms of geraniums too! I think I will make an arrangement for the table when I pick them.
Thank you so much for sharing the inspiration!

Hi! I absolutely love your pumpkin window box! So natural and beautiful. Wouldn't have expected anything less! I have to tell you that when my parents were visiting last week my mom and I spent a shameful amount of time looking at your gorgeous home! She even asked for the web address so she could look some more when she got home! You definitely have some admirers in us! :-)
Thanks for always being so inspiring,
Vanessa

Hi!
I like your inspirational photo, but I love what you have done, yours looks just as good. I have two window boxes, and I have so wanted to do something like that. Maybe I will next week after seeing what you have done. Thanks for the inspiration!
Hugs, Cindy

I like the greenery touches in your pumpkin window box. Actually, I think it's a more original approach than the inspiration photo. The inspiration is more predictably "Fall Decorations." I like what you've done. I am personally inspired to go find a couple of ivy topiaries for my front porch. Sounds like a good Saturday project to me! Thank you for sharing your delightful designs. Delores, I know what you mean about the window box not looking exactly like the inspriation photo... been there!
The great thing is that it's easy to change for something that you like better. I know you will find a fabulous Fall look that you like...and we all will want to copy for our homes. Can't wait to see what you do.

Delores,
it's not exactly the same but as nice as the window box of the grocery store. I love yours, it is a great idea.
Greetings, Johanna

Dearest Delores,

It looks a bit mismatched with the pelargoniums but the display on the ground is great! You will find a place for that special collection; where they will come better to their right...

Sunny greetings and a great weekend from Georgia,

It's working for me with the pumpkins and geraniums. Not exactly like the inspiration photo...but that's why it's called inspiration and not copycat! Speaking of inspiration and not copycat, I adore your Rural Scenes transferware, and thought I'd poke around to see if I could get a set. HA! Right? Maybe there is a teacup saucer available for $49. Never mind finding 4 plates. BUT, I did get inspiration from you and just found 4 brown transferware plates with colored turkeys on them at Tuesday Morning for $6/each! So, as much as I wanted to copycat you, I used the inspiration and am about to update some dining room plate racks. Love your blog, from Chicago.

What a fun idea! Just add some dried corn and husks to pump up the volume!

I think it isn't bad. I think it just needs something under some of the pumpkins to raise them up. At least you have a window box to play around with.

Very pretty! I love the Fall colors and decorations. My chickens would sure love to take those pumpkins off your hands when you start planting.

I guess the geraniums have to be replaced with leaves and straw ... sigh

if I could grow geraniums year round, i would, too

p.s. your cow is on its' way

It all looks nice. I'm outdoors working on pots and beds this weekend. I thought about adding some pumpkins and gourds, but I think the squirrels will have a feast. Don't want to encourage these pests. ~ Sarah

Love your Fall decor. I had plans to get a pumpkin or 2 and some Fall flowers at the farmers' market today, but remembered after I got home and did not go back.
Enjoy your weekend.

So cute. I've yet to go out and buy my gourds and pumpkins. I think your arrangement is nice! Maybe something to lift up your gourds a bit. Maybe some Indian corn, Spanish moss for filler and some pretty fall leaf bunches. :)

I really like your window box and I think you should keep it just as it is...or maybe just raise the pumpkins up a bit higher. I think it is very festive and celebrates fall. It has been so hot in Southern California that the fall bug has not bitten me yet. I have an assortment of pumpkins and gourds but haven't done a thing with them. Enjoy your weekend.

Delores, I am back again because I wanted to share something with you. My neighbor came home with pictures today after taking a class on creating a fall windowbox at our local nursery. I can honestly say that your windowbox is far and beyond anything her instructors created. She showed me the pictures. Their boxes were all very nice but your's tops them all!
You have created something that is festive with a subtle sophistication. Please don't touch a thing on your windowbox. It is beautiful and charming!
