Harvesting Grapes and Figs

It's that time of year again. The figs are ripening....

....The concord grapes are ripe and hanging from the arbor.

Here is our little harvest from the weekend, including a few heirloom tomatoes.
This batch of grapes is earmarked for a restaurant my son works at. The chef will use them in a pork dish!

We're keeping this little crop of figs. I plan on making a goat cheese and fig salad.
Here's the recipe:

Combine 3 tsp. sherry wine vinegar, 1 tsp. dijon, a small minced shallot, 1 minced garlic clove, 1/4 tsp. kosher salt, and 1/4 C. walnut oil in a bowl and whisk. Set aside to marinate for half an hour.
In a large bowl, toss 2 and a half ounces of mixed baby greens, 6 quartered figs, 1 and a half ounces of goat cheese and 1/4 C of walnuts or pecans with the vinaigrette.

The colors are just beautiful!

I have several projects up my sleeve this week. Can't wait for Bob the Painter to arrive!
Happy Monday Everyone!

Delores, How lucky you are to have fresh figs! I ate these every morning while we were on our recent cruise and now I am addicted. The only problem is here in Richmond the tiny ones are $1.50each! Your pictures beautiful!

What a wonderful bounty! You are so fortunate to be able to grow such classics. I make a fig confit this time of year, while the figs are perfectly ripe. I jar it and use it as a topping for goat cheese during the holidays.
Thanks for the beautiful post.

Your harvest is worthy of a "Grown in CA" commerical. The grapes look so lucious, I don't know that I could give them up. I have never tried fresh figs. They have been in the store the last few weeks, but much smaller then yours.

I think figs are a misunderstood fruit. Aren't they the greatest. We spread fig jelly over brie and heated it up at our last dinner party. YUM

Wow, love your harvest! We just recently moved from a home where we were growing some grapes & had a huge fig tree (or is it bush?). The fig tree was loaded with "not ripe, yet, figs) & I hated to leave it, but we'll plant another one. The Fig & Goat Cheese Salad is a "must try" and soon!
