Some Kitchen Lights Up For Consideration

I did a little online shopping for pendants that would look good over my kitchen island.
Here are a few up for consideration, starting with this one from Shades of Light.

Shades of Light
Burlap?

Wisteria
Steel drum?

Wisteria
Classic lantern?

Pottery Barn
Mini pendants?

Pottery Barn
Large pendant?

Shades of Light
French fleur de lys?

I'm really leaning towards this one.
Love the white distressed wooden accents and the oiled bronze metal.
Above all, I think it's pretty!

What's your favorite?

I wonder how anyone could keep burlap clean in a kitchen Delores - or anywhere, for that matter!

I like the steel drum, but then I have always been a brutalist~

The Classic lantern looks great, but then again the setting helps a lot! French Fleur de Lys is nice too!

They are all beautiful although I think the burlap and steel drum ones wouldn't give that much light. But I love the lantern the best.

Scrolling through I gasped when I saw the last one. That is my favorite, too.

I am loving the first one, it feels like a forever piece to me. I do love the black shades on the last and also the shape, but the Fleur De lis makes it look a bit trendy to me. If it did not have that stamped on the shade, that would be another great choice, but I am sticking with the first one!! IMHO, xo Kathysue

They are all quite lovely, but I'm with you...those last two are crazy wonderful!

Wow all so beautiful but for me it would be between the classic lantern from Wisteria and the fleur de lis fixtures..sooo beautiful! I cannot wait to see what you choose! The burlap is fun but I would hate to think of how it wears over time with grease and the air of cooking that wafts through a kitchen.

I love the Classic Lantern and the Fleur de Lis...

The last one is my choice because of the symbol...flur-de-lys...I'm from Louisiana and that is the Saints symbol. Love out team...but love your lighting too! Have a wonderful week. Hugs

I am building a house right now and I am looking at island lighting too! I found the Pottery Barn light beautiful but the scale might not be right. The lantern would be my first choice. It's classic and will never go out of style. My second choice would be the Fleur de Lis although I worry it might be too much unless the rest of your kitchen is really simple. By the way, I love your blog:)

I like the Pottery Barn pendants, but I'm for anything that is easy to clean in a kitchen.

Ok they are all fabulous then my mouth dropped when I saw the last one and was pleased you liked it too so I might be able to see it in your kitchen!

La Vie Quotidienne said...

I like them all except the burlap, and frankly I think that all of this attention to burlap is a passing fancy...all of the others are more classical and will stand the test of time.

Victoria said...

Before I read your choice, my choice was the fleur de lys. It still is my unbiased choice, although the others are also pretty. The burlap is great, but I would not want it in a kitchen. My second choice would be any of the lanterns.
Best...Victoria

I love the last two most of all.
But I know for a fact that anything you choose will work beautifully. Cannot wait to see your kitchen reveal.

I love your favorite also, it really is very pretty. Can't wait to see all of your choices. Hugs, Marty

Love the last two also, I prefer the double fixture- you can never have too much light in the kitchen and put it on a dimmer. I agree with others that if the shade comes sans the fleur de lis that would make it perfect!

well, that was fun! I like the last one too.

Oh, can I have the French fleur de lys too? I don't have any place for it right now, but I could redo my breakfast room. Again.

I love them all but agree that the Fleur de Lys pattern is stunning. Have fun choosing!

I like practicality with looks and the last one is perfect...single or double. I can't imagine the burlap one lasting long in a kitchen. How would you clean it? Can't wait to see the final reveal.

Fleur de Lys....without question. Instant love when I saw the picture. So glad it's your favorite too.

decisions, decisions. the first 3 are awesome and the large lantern from pottery barn get my vote. i know not very helpful, sure you can't fit 4 over your island.

Antique Style said...

I liked the last one the best. Whether you get the single or double..that would depend on the size of the island. FUN FUN project!

Love the lantern! The fleur de lis is certainly pretty as well. Trust your gut, it is a good gut!

The fleur de lys or the steel drum would look great with the new counter tops. Depends on the overall look you want. But either way, I know you'll make it look great! You have a wonderful sense of style.

I have two baker's lights from Restoration Hardware that I love; large square lights with ribs going down. I made the mistake of not purchasing the mini pendent light that matched to go over my sink. Eight years later, I still want a light over my sink and now I can't find one I like.

Classic Lantern or Large Pendant from pottery barn! I love the classic lantern styles! What fun! I am using a burlap drum light in a clients kitchen, but it is in the eating area ... and hoping it does okay since it is not in the "grease and heat" of the cooking area! Can't wait to see what you do!

Fleur de Lys.. that is a darling piece. I love the sexy curve of the metal brackets.. and the shade is fun piece. Although loving those pottery barn pieces too, but the fleur de lys has more character!

I am in the same boat looking for a lantern, chandelier or pendant for my kitchen island. I have already purchased, hung and returned 3 different styles.I too liked the Wisteria lantern but was afraid the brown tin looked a little bit cheap at eye level. I loved the Pottery Barn lantern but when hung it cast a large retangle on the ceiling when lit. it bothered me so back it went. I currently have a wrought iron sphere that I found at Lowes but don't think it is the perfect find.
Please let me know if you find any other beauties. The search is making me and my family crazy.

Over the new marble island??

The obvious choice would be the double Fleur. That is if it is just for looks and style.

If you are in need of task lighting the first for sure. Then the PB Barn pendants.

All FABulous for different areas around the house. Great choices and loving the little burlap tulip shade. Awe heck get em all! '))

Wow, hard choice. The fleur is gorgeouse though!

Delores,
The French fleur de lys is my favorite but those mini-pendants are sure cute for some spot.

I like the last one as well....the others with the light bulbs showing would be too glaring to look at. The one you like is a beautiful fixture....very unique.

*** Sweetie, the ONLY place you could keep that TOO FAB BURLAP one clean (in a kitchen, that is!), would be at MY house... (you guessed it! I'm not much of a cook anymore ~ I just love a p*r*e*t*t*y kitchen to LOOK at and WALK thru!!!! Grins...)~~~!!!

Seriously tho, all have good/great/fab looks, but IMHO, some have questionably good "characteristics"... IE: I'd (personally) stay AWAY from anything too fleur de lys. And, while I have dimmers on absolutely EVERY single light in our home, I STILL would never be pleased w/ the look of a "bare bulb"... (they remind me of some kind of "interrogation" process where the criminal admits "OKAY, OKAY! I DID IT! I DID IT! Just turn that light off me!"... (Smiles!)... Honestly Delores, I just don't think YOU would be happy with that effect...

Buuuut, what a LOVELY "DILEMA" to be in, huh?

Warmest,

There all great choices. If you don't want to replace it right away, stay away from the burlap. I do like it , but it is trendy. We might only see burlap for another year or so. you have such good taste, I know you will pick out the best one. Cant wait to see what you will pick.

My favorite is the Mini Pendants, I actually considered those to go over my island when I did a complete kitchen makeover a couple of years ago. I would have put three over the island. My second choice would be the steel drum. All of them are stunning and any that you decide upon will be perfect.

Shades of Light has a store and an outlet here in Richmond. I love to browse in both. I have bought several light fixtures from them and they have all been excellent quality. I like the fleur de lys and the large Pottery Barn one the best.

The lighting fixture that you are considering from Shades of Light is available from CYAN (To the Trade Only) at half the price. Just returned from High Point Market and saw them there for $225. My friend purchased one last year and it is in her breakfast room. I love the way it looks.
