Squirrels, Acorns and Oak Leaves, Oh My!

Got to love squirrels, acorns and oak leaves!
My eye will always seek them out; whether on furniture, dishes, jewelry or art of some kind, they just appeal to me!

Case in point: The carved acorns and oak leaves on my Welsh Cupboard.
I don't think I would have bought it if it weren't for these wonderful embellishments.

Or the delightful border on this transferware plate.
I don't even want to show the center of the plate, because it's all about the border!

That's supposed to be a squirrel handle on this jug. Another one of my favorite majolica pieces, it depicts oak leaves and the pitcher itself is like one giant acorn.

I recently found the creamer and sugar to match at a thrift store.

One King's Lane had this plate for sale last week.
At $15, I couldn't resist!

The Paris Hotel Boutique has these fantastic Victorian Percha Acorn earrings for sale here.
Priced at $425, I am resisting! But it's hard because they are so cool.

Probably a more reasonably priced pair of acorn earrings as found in Woodland Style, a book dedicated to all things nature inspired.

I saw this door knocker on Pinterest and it just about killed me!
I won't rest until I find one like it someday! Maybe it's not a knocker, but an added decoration.
Still, if you ever find one, please let me know!

Do you see the green squirrel lamp? And the acorn in front of it?
I even have a squirrel print in this room. What can I say? I just love those squirrels!

Here's a project I will probably never do. Glue acorns on a simple wooden frame.
Add the oak leaf and voila!

In the meantime, I get a lot of pleasure watching this squirrel outside my window, watching me!
How can you resist that face!
Maybe I should frame him in that DIY frame I'll make someday!

I've been kind of on a nature inspired design kick these days.
I think it's a symptom of "spring fever!"
Please bear with me!

This post goes hand in hand with your post yesterday about Fauz Bois. Hmmm.......I see a theme.
I adore squirrels in 'decor' and watching them in real life. Although they drive my poor dog, Lizzie, crazy.

You won't believe this but our town had not a squirrel until I trapped 10 (7 females) from my brother's house 100 miles away
(1980)and brought them here to live!

My entry has an acorn chandy and acorn stair finials.

Some folks are mad at me over the squirrels but most like them. I agree..how can you resist?

Gorgeous pieces..how great that you were able to find a matching piece at a thrift store! The handcarving on your cupboard is beautiful! My favorite style is nature and garden inspired and that's why I love my visits to your blog. Such a great place to get inspired!

Delores,
We must be kindred spirits! I too love all things squirrel and acorn. Have you seen Charter Oak silver plate flatware? Ebay sells pieces of it and it's not always horribly expensive. I started collecting and have 6 dinner forks, spoons and 4 knives...must continue the search.
Love the transferware border.

Beautiful pieces! I never thought about it until now. Here In Illinois we haven't seen a squirrel in our yard. I probably should have them inside...Oh wait I have oak leaves and an acorn as decoration in the middle of our fireplace. Thanks for bringing out the squirrel in me! lol

And I copied your leather chair in my Pinterest. If you prefer that I take it off, would you please let me know? Thanks!

Saw those plates on OKL.. glad you got them. they will be lovely in your home. When last I saw my lovely yard dwellers, they were almost as chubby as my kitty! I love to watch them as long as they stay out of my flower pots!! Your home is quite lovely, as always. Love your red transferware plates too.. Secretly, I think squirrels are cute.. xo marlis

Hi Delores,
Loved your post today! I thought you might enjoy my post on my favorite squirrel in our yard http://www.yourdaysimplified.com/squirrel-revenge/

Also, I really enjoyed getting to watch the beauty in your daughters wedding. You did a great job in sharing with us without exposing too much!
Have a great day!

Delores, I'm not such a fan of live squirrels these days. They have yet again destroyed more outdoor cushions. Never had an issue with them till last year. That said, I've lots of squirrels and acorns here inside the house. Like you they delight me. Our bed features oak leaves and acorns. You would like it. ;-)

PS
I'd like the Victorian Percha Acorn earrings.

I hate to be an enabler but have you seen the oak and acorn wooden charger plates at Neiman Marcus? OMG

Ruh Roh, I'm gonna have to check them out Marian!
Oh, and thank you Karen for telling me about the Charter Oak silver-plate. I'm all over it! Why didn't I know about this already!?

I have a cousin that feeds her squirells, she spends a fortune on peanuts!!! Personally, since we live in the woods we have TONS of squireels and they can be very destructive so I do NOT encourage them:) LOVE your hutch, [plates etc. and hope you find that flatware!!! XO, Pinky

Love all your squirrel and acorn decorated items...you would be right at home here in Raleigh, NC, City of the Oaks..they drop an acorn on New Year's Eve..

I adore squirrels and am rather obsessed with them, too. We have a colony of them at Darlington House, where they are endlessly amusing. I've been collecting figures of squirrels for years, as I've written abut several times on my blog, including my most treasured one: a 19th century taxidermy under a dome, found in Brooklyn many years ago. Love the pictures here, and your point of view. Rgds, Reggie Darling

Hi Delores, being an Aussie living in England, I find the squirrel fascinating. I often leave out a container of walnuts on the table near the window and photograph one up close through the window. I've managed to obtain some really great close ups and have posted about them. The locals think I'm mad (wouldn't be the first time)...as they are considered pests. But to me they are very different and cute...give me a squirrel over a koala any day! Robx

The Uptown Acorn loves acorns too! Great pics. xo

I've been looking for curtains with a leaf print and in Google's images, your squirrel photo close up came up. I was so delighted I had to check it out. I agree, love squirrels and all things outdoors. Really enjoyed seeing all of your things and knowing there are other folks out there who wouldn't think my squirrely decor is so nutty after all! Loved seeing your things, thanks for sharing.
