September Musings

Can someone tell me when September happened?
Seriously, where did the summer go?

After being "unplugged" in the wine country for four days, September snuck up on me!

September has always represented that back to school mentality to me.
Even though I'm not going back to school, it still gives me that little bit of anxiety.
And sadness.  Sad that summer is coming to an end.

"The breezes taste
Of apple peel.
The air is full
Of smells to feel-
Ripe fruit, old footballs,
Burning brush,
New books, erasers,
Chalk, and such.
The bee, his hive,
Well-honeyed hum,
And Mother cuts
Chrysanthemums.
Like plates washed clean
With suds, the days
Are polished with
A morning haze.
"

This has always been my favorite time of year. I love the coming of fall weather.
It came a little quicker than I expected today though. Pouring rain and at 8:30 am it was so dark from the clouds it looked more like midnight in the house.
I love the cooler nights. The changing of the leaves. The great food simmering in a kitchen.

Glad to know I am not the only one that feels "school" anxiety around this time of the year. It took me awhile this morning to recognize that strange and familiar feeling. You'd think at 56 years old I'd get over it! Ha

Delores, I've been retired since 1998, so this time of year I always feel extremely grateful that I'm sleeping in instead of being at school by 7:15. :-)
From the look of that view, I'd say you've ended the summer with the good life. I bet Asti is even more gorgeous in the fall! ~ Sarah

I always have a feeling of dread and anxiety because of Back to School. I hate Back to School signs and sales because my Mom taught for 45 years. Even though she has been retired for 10 years...I still get those old feelings. I personally liked school and didn't mind going back but I hated my Mom going back because I'd slide far down the line of things she paid attention to and my Dad would be all upset because he slid even further down the line. I picked up on his unhappiness and it added to mine. All these years later...it still bothers me. I don't want this summer to end...the weather has been great and everything has been calm in my life...which it has not been in a long time....I don't want this summer to stop.

Dear Delores,
take advance from the grace not to hurry to school anymore. To have breakfast in the sunshine, to do what you want to do. Slow down and relax and take your time for things you love. September is the beginning of harvest and autumn. Its a great time with all your grapes around you. Looks like Italy/Toskana for me. I love the scent of ripe grapes. I wish you a wonderful and merry autumn.
Best greetings, Johanna

September still doesn't feel real to me! I don't like not having school age kids for that very reason! No back to school lists…etc…! Anyway.. September IS here and we have been getting the shop ready for fall! Check out the latest post on my shop and you will see some lovely fall decor! I sure wish I was unplugged in the wine country right this very minute!

Yes, without the school calendar it all changes somehow! But now I also see the Fall as THE time to travel. Living up North I dreaded fall as the prelude to the awful, snowy, gray winter; but now down here it has become a much more joyful and anticipated time!
