This is a village in Holland where you won't find a single road.
All transportation is by boats along the canals.
It's called Giethoorn, located in the Dutch provence of Overijssel. The old part of the village has remained the same with canals and footbridges, although there is now a cycling path.
It has been called "Little Venice," or the Venice of Holland. It truly is a fantasy-like place.
These cottages and farmhouses are so beautiful with their thatched roofs and gorgeous gardens. This is classic 18th and 19th century Dutch village architecture.
I and can only imagine what it must look like inside these quaint and charming homes.
Wouldn't it be fun to rent one for a week?
How gorgeous is this!
I am definitely putting Giethoorn on my list of places to visit before I die!

We always associate tulips with the Netherlands but look at all these
wonderful flowers and plants. The hydrangeas are gorgeous. I love the bench at the edge
of the canal – is it the towns form of a
bus stop!?! The footbridge is charming. What a lovely summer trip this would be.
Thank you for showing us this unique village.
Enchanting! I've never heard of this quaint little place before...definitely a *must see*!

What a pretty place. I have never heard of it before. Those houses look like Hansel and Gretel houses.
The canals look wonderful. Like a fairy tale place.
Sydney - City and Suburbs
An incredible fantasy world! Every photo is like another glimpse of paradise! Wonderful photos!
I could only imagine what the inside of this gorgeous place looks. Thanks so much Delores for your support on this fun little venture of mine.....so nice to know all the blogging buddies I have out here. These are gorgeous photos too by the way!
Wow! It is such an envy! So scenic. I bet the houses are so expensive! We have Los Angeles' Venice Canals located in Venice Beach. Nothing compared to yours.
Holland is beautiful!
OMG- I had the opportunity many years ago to spend a little time there. Just magical is all I can say. Thank you for bringing back some wonderful memories.
Viva la Dutch!
How lovely, wished I lived there!
What a VERY lovely place. I love the canals and the roofs on those adorable houses along the way. How I would love a vacation here!
I am so glad you shared all this beauty today. I was not aware they had no streets or roads. How interesting is that. I learn so much from fellow bloggers. I am not sure if I would like it with just water. However, if you never knew any different it would not matter. Very beautiful homes. What a great place that would be to visit.
i love all the places you share, you are making me just itch for a holiday!
happy 4th at asti, its gonna be another hot one...
how do you like cutting for stone, i have in my pile...
I can just picture myself living in one of the quaint, charming cottages ~ and to be located by a body of water to boot!!!
What a heavenly place!
Thanks for sharing!

Oh, this is so beautiful! I have a fondness for Sweden and Swedish decorating! I am working on a post for my little girls room done with a Swedish Intent. I am new to your site! Thank you for stopping by! I am excited to follow yours...can tell it is great! You might like my costal cottages at http://threepixielane.blogspot.com/2010/06/cottages-by-sea.html. I will add your cottages to my list of favorites! Thanks!
It looks like a storybook! I have my passport handy now I just gotta get a few bucks saved up! I've always wanted to go to Holland.
What a great post to dream on, thanks.
Oh my gosh, how adorable! It seems impossible that people actually live in those houses. They almost look like doll houses. What a great place to live.
What a truly charming place! I guess the people who are lucky enough to live on one of the canals have to put up with all the "gawkers" in the boats!! Never seen anything like it!
What a beautiful town to visit. How unique is the mode of transportation.
this is my kind of village ... can you even imagine ... nobody rolling stop signs in quiet little neighborhoods!
Delores, thank you so much! You have found my ideal retirement village! I'll take the house with the bench on the canal. So impractical and wonderful in this blackberry-addled world. Jane F.
Just lovely! I am adding it to my list too!
Thanks for sharing!

I feel as though I was in a fantasy lasnd! Wonderful!
It is a gorgeous place and I love all the houses and cottages. It would be neat to arrive home in a boat instead of a car. Lovely photos, I enjoyed this post.
Wow! What an amazing village.
wow thats amazing. I do wonder how they keep their young children from falling in the water. Funny how my head always goes into "mum" mode!
